Central Cinema’s Hecklevision events give you permission to text during a movie. Your texts are instantaneously displayed onscreen, adding a layer of spontaneity—and hilarity—that otherwise would have been wastefully locked up inside the heads of moviegoers. It transcends the usual Mystery Science Theater 3000 snark to become a celebration of a community’s humor and inventiveness. Tonight’s Hecklevision feature is John Travolta’s heinous Scientological passion project, Battlefield Earth, meaning that the audience’s thumbs will be working overtime as they battle the twin evils of atrocious filmmaking and obvious dumb cult propaganda.
