Seattle artist Mike Simi’s sculptures and videos are funny, but they have a jolty edge; you don’t want to touch them. In 2007, when he graduated from UW’s MFA program, his thesis included the disgusting robot Beef Stew Monster, who sensed and chased visitors to the gallery. He later made throw pillows printed with the mug shots of the registered sex offenders in his Michigan hometown. In his first show at his new gallery, Season, several of the works seem to take on the theme of relationships: Siamese Handtruck (just what it sounds like); the masculine/feminine of Jack Pole, a stripper pole wedged between ceiling and floor and topped by a crushed black baseball cap; and AA in the Style of Metallica, which we’ll just let you discover for yourself.
