Time-travel movies only veer between excellent (12 Monkeys) and shitty (The Jacket). Looper is one of the very good ones. Once you get past Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s convincing-but-still-distracting makeup, you’re drawn into a classic film noir with grubby sci-fi trappings. As JGL tries to track down and murder his future self (Bruce Willis), Looper dazzles with extravagant violence, top-notch acting, and excellent filmmaking craftsmanship in the SFX and prop-design categories. Looper steals from the time-travel greats (The Terminator) and contributes a few brilliant moments to the canon, too. (See Movie Times)
