This is the 10th year of Donald Byrdâs tenure as top dog at Spectrum Dance Theater. For the anniversary seasonâs studio show, Byrd has assembled a steamy-sounding lineup of sex and death: Crispin Spaethâs Only You was choreographed as a tumbling, passionate valentine to its composer (and now Spaethâs husband) Dale Sather. Back, sack and crack by Olivier Wevers is a suggestively titled âexamination of sexualityâ and âgender identity.â And Byrdâs A Meeting Place uses old instrumentsâthe European lute and the Middle Eastern oudââas a metaphor for cultures, weapons, and ideologies.â (Spectrum Dance Studio Theater, 800 Lake Washington Blvd, spectrumdance.org, 8 pm, $25, Nov 30âDec 9)
