A while back, poet Shin Yu Pai moved from Seattle to the Deep South. Her poetry collection about the experience, Aux Arcs—the title is a play on the word “Ozarks”—is a beautiful and wary book. (Spoiler alert: For those wondering about its tone, Pai said in an interview, “I am done with the South and will never again live in Texas or anywhere within the Bible Belt or Stroke Belt.”) Tonight’s launch party will feature music by visual artist and Aux Arcs cover designer Whiting Tennis, whose sad, Southern-tinged rock should provide context for Pai’s reading.
