The Stranger

Monologuist Mike Daisey's early version of this show last summer was immediately electrifying. It follows the story of his trip to China, where—doing what he says leagues of journalists seemingly can't—he parked himself outside the gates of a factory of 500,000 workers (where many had been throwing themselves to their deaths, so the company put nets on the buildings). Daisey—a tech geek and lifelong Apple lover—shook the hands that assemble the world's iPhones, iPads, and iPods. He met outlaw unionizers with mangled limbs and workers with fused spines from 16-hour shifts.
