'Rubber' FILM
'Rubber'

In the desert, an abandoned tire comes to life. It starts rolling mutely toward civilization, learning along the way that it can explode things (including bottles, rabbits, and human heads) with its... uh, brain. The action becomes a movie within a movie: On the edge of the desert, an audience watches the tire from a safe distance through binoculars, griping when things get boring and excitedly chattering when a woman takes her clothes off. You've never seen anything quite like Rubber. If you like any of the following—Hal Hartley, horror films, Samuel Beckett, old Warner Bros. Road Runner cartoons, or Kurt Vonnegut—then you must see this movie. (Northwest Film Forum, 1515 12th Ave, 829-7863, 7 and 9 pm, $9)
