The Stranger

Absurdity and surrealism are the bread and butter of the Residents. For four decades, these masters of multimedia subversion and cracked storytelling have been anonymously creating uniquely bizarre audio/visual environments. The Residents are at their best when interpreting other musicians' compositions; they excel at transmogrifying popular songs into alien soundscapes that contain only the barest grotesque outlines of the originals. Recent years have found the cryptic organization focusing on thematic concerts that really only make sense while on powerful hallucinogens. Beguiling bafflement awaits.
