James Gleick BOOKS
James Gleick

You should be glad that James Gleick is way smarter than you. Not only can he understand complex scientific concepts like quantum physics and chaos theory, he's also gifted enough to explain them in pleasant, understandable language. His newest book, The Information, is a history of humanity's relationship with information, from African talking drums to quantum computing. If you think the information age started with Aol.com, you're wrong: All human history is about information, all the way down to our DNA. This is the page-turner you never knew you desperately wanted to read. (Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Ave, 624-6600, 7:30 pm, $5)

Great idea for Monday!

Later in the week, check out the Moisture Festival ...

"MOISTURE FESTIVAL** - March 17-April 10 - Hale's, ACT, Georgetown Ballroom & Vashon's O Space

It's 4 weeks of shows at 4 venues with a zillion combinations of wacky, sublime, eclectic performers from all over the world; a super-psyched, silly and overdressed volunteer staff; and a continual atmosphere of fun and unpredictability.

The home base is, as usual, Hale's Palladium in Fremont, which will host variety shows and a few benefit shows throughout the entire festival - shows are some Wedns nights, Thursday evenings, Fridays early and late; Saturdays have matinees, early and late night shows and Sundays have matinees and evenings. Variete' shows are also being hosted at the Georgetown Ballroom on April 1-3, at Vashon's O Space on April 7-8, and there are burlesque & variety shows at ACT's Allen theater (in the round) on March 25-27 & April 1-3.

Tickets are affordable, with discounts for kids, and shows vary from kid-oriented matinees, family evening shows, to whatever-goes late-night variety and burlesque shows. Shows do sell out, so look at the website, check out the act lists and performer bios for each show, and get tix in advance."

James Gleick? He's no Malcolm Gladwell.
