Curling SPORTS
Curling

For several weekends each winter, the Granite Curling Club invites the public to come and try out the only Olympic sport you can play while also drinking copious amounts of beer. And there are only two open houses left this season! For $15, you'll learn the basics of the game and play a match against other newbies. There's usually a crowd, but did I mention they have a bar and supply snacks? You can grab a drink, eat cookies, and watch people fall down on the ice while waiting for your turn. (Granite Curling Club, 1440 N 128th St, 362-2446. 9 am–noon, $15.)

the curling club is awesome! the bar is small, but the bartender (who also curls) pours huge glasses of wine and a stiff drink as well. not to mention the music is always shockingly good. the sport is interesting to learn about and the people who go there are more than willing to give facts, tips, and help. you should go! all of your friends would be so jealous of you, i mean, how many folks go curling over the weekend? (clearly i am biased, i should make it clear though i don't curl, my sister and her husband do...at this club)

Clearly, you haven't been skiing recently.

I just want to know, if curling can be a winter olympic sport then why isn't bowling an olympic sport as well?

I was watching Olympic curling at the gym, and some of the women are ridiculously hot.

@3,

Mock curling all you want, but it is a sport played throughout the northern states, Canada, all over Europe, and even a handful of countries in Asia.

Bowling is almost entirely an American sport--at least the way we play it. Other countries have similar games, but often with different numbers of pins, different sized balls and different sized pins, and different rules. There really is no single class of 'bowling' that is played internationally. Ever played 5-pin bowling in Canada?

You can argue the pros and cons of adding different sports to the Olympics, but one of the basic criteria is that it needs to be a sport that is played internationally by more-or-less the same rules.

I think someone is a little too sensitive about curling.

I guess I shouldn't mention my theory as to its beginnings - way back when in Scotland there was a group of men with only alcohol, brooms, a tea kettle and way too much time on their hands.
