Claudia Fitch

What you imagine is that the second you leave the room, the giant white arm attached to the wall—the one with the great, terrible chrome eye dangling from it like a poisonous flower (the subtitle of this art is Nightshade)—begins mechanically spitting out ceramic pod-spores, each one identical and wearing the same fluorescent dot as the eye, each one moving to the side, conveyor-belt-style, to make room for the next. Claudia Fitch's installation Floating Mechanism (Nightshade) is an alien factory frozen in time that you can't stop wondering about. (Suyama Space, 2324 Second Ave, 256-0809. 9 am–5 pm, free. Through April 23.)
