KEXP 'Expansions' MLK Unity Party

The liberating, multicultural spirit of Martin Luther King Jr. manifests itself in tonight's lineup of local DJs. The veteran hosts of KEXP's Expansions program—Kid Hops, Masa, and DJ Riz—form a United Nations committee of beat science, bringing many strains of electronic music in their record bags, which they mix impeccably. Fellow savvy selectors SunTzu Sound add to the aural heat. Free your mind and your ass will follow—in a civilly righteous manner. (Neumos, 925 E Pike St, 709-9442. 8 pm, $7, 21+.)

Dr. King was nothing if not a Christian, so I actually went to a motherfucking church this morning. It was interesting to just sit quietly among his coreligionists for an hour.

Now I must extract a promise from a becabled friend to record "Wainwright on Skates" Johnny Weir's reality program, debuting tomorrow on the Sundance Channel. (h/t Dlisted.)

But I won't dance in public, thanks. Still fat from the holidays, I don't wish to be mistaken for a bear of some kind.

Very liberating, just please don't change my street's name to MLK.
