'Leave Her to Heaven'

Have you guys looked at Gene Tierney's face lately? Holy shit. The sleepy eyes, the smirky mouth, the iceberg cheekbones, the wispy veil of crazy. It's a hell of a face. Tierney's face (and the rest of her) was nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for 1945's Leave Her to Heaven, now newly restored in 35 mm. As an attention-hungry wife—needy, psychotic, scary, somehow sympathetic—Tierney would rather kill her own child than share her husband's affections. Then things get worse. Cornel Wilde (just a so-so face on that guy) costars as the bewildered groom. (Grand Illusion, 1403 NE 50th St, 523-3935. 5, 7, and 9 pm, $8.)

You forgot to mention Gene Tierney's oh-so-sexy overbite; and neglected to gush over the incredibly lush color in "Leaver Her to Heaven."

I may have to drive up to Seattle to see this one.

It is a really good movie and highly stylized example of the era. Check out the homes in this film.

The color and makeup alone would make the film worth watching, but the total eeevil of Ms Tierney's character makes this a must see.

Such a great movie, although for the first 10 or so minutes I wasn't sure where it was going.

And I'm glad that there were a bunch of people for the 5pm and 7pm showings tonight. The color in the film is a great antidote to Seattle's current darkness.

Fans of Vincent Price need to see this movie if they already haven't.

Yay for the Grand Illusion.

(I'm gonna have nightmares tonight involving being interrogated.)

Damn, I missed "Leave Her to Heaven." I guess I will have to console myself by popping "Laura" in the DVD player and masturbating furiously.

It's also on YouTube, broken into 13 parts around 9 minutes each.

@7: ugh, wtf?? Why would one watch it via 13 youtube segments instead of one new 35mm print?

'Cause we're not all locals. I'd go if I lived there, I agree it's better to see it as intended.

I watched it last night on YouTube and realized about half way through that I'd seen it many years ago but didn't remember the ending.
