Ryan Boudinot READING
Ryan Boudinot

Two weeks ago, Ryan Boudinot read from his debut novel, Misconception, at Elliott Bay Book Company. Somewhere in the middle of the first chapter, around the part when the main character describes his own sperm as seen in a microscope as "each a tiny exclamation point carrying my half of what could have been a human being," an offended woman stormed out of the reading, which made the evening feel even more exciting. We can only hope that Boudinot manages to alienate even more uptight grannies with his hilarious, pervy stories tonight. (University Book Store, 4326 University Way NE, 634-3400. 7 pm, free.)

@1 It could be misconstrued as being preachy to us ladies who believe in choice. Personally, I look at sperm as something that should be in a condom to be thrown away or cleaned off of a rag, not a "tiny exclamation point carrying...what could have been a human being."

maybe she was one of those uptight bitter women who for some unknown reason wants children and yet cannot find a consenting male donor.

Yeah, I mean, it's not that I wouldn't want the sperm in me, it's the part about "what could have been a human being" that creeps me out.

Or maybe she just doesn't see sperm as little infants wearing diapers and sucking on pacifiers. I sure don't pull out a bloody tampon and think of a wrinkled newborn.

why does that creep you out? men jack off all the time and women have periods. those are "what could have been human beings" also.
