ÜberPortrait, with portraits by 11 artists, is a world of ideas, not just personalities. Take Peruvian artist Kukuli Velarde's faux pre-Colombian figurines and vessels arranged like an ethnographic display. Plunder Me, Baby is their title, and each one is a plundered woman with the artist's face, bulging eyes, and angry red labia. The metaphor is of colonial rape, but it's the seething color you remember. Across the room, the artist Brian O'Doherty, dressed in cool white, celebrates killing his nearly lifelong alter ego, Patrick Ireland. Ireland was born of the Troubles and can finally die with them.
