'Rhinestone' FILM / CONFLICT OF INTEREST
'Rhinestone'

Putting a long-overdue honky-tonk spin on the classic Pygmalion, 1984's Rhinestone stars Dolly Parton as a boobalicious Henrietta Higgins and Sylvester Stallone as the guy she has to turn into a bona fide country singer—and if she fails, she's got to have sex with Ron Leibman! This movie is terrible, and tonight we'll be watching it all the way through, hosted and casually annotated by me. (Central Cinema, 1411 21st Ave, www.brownpapertickets.com. 7 pm, $7.)

I loved "Rhinestone Cowboy" when I was a kid. I checked it out from the Issaquah Public Library seventeen thousand times. I still fondly remember the tattered corners of the VHS box.

Dolly is my hero.

Oh! And the best part?! Is the denouement when Stallone bombs with the crowd and then grunts, "If I'm going down, I'm going down MY WAY." A heavy rock beat begins, he purses his lips in his badass Stalloney way, and motherfucker ROCKS the joint. Dolly is thrilled, and all is right in the world.

*sniff*

Oh! And another good part?! Is when Stallone tries to walk in cowboy boots! Wacky hijinks!

I'm so excited about this one, and Gigli comin' up next week. Roadhouse was mostly torture. "I don't GOT 20 dollars!"

Roadhouse was not mostly torture. It was just mediocre.

That being said, I'M SO EXCITED (I'M SO SCARED) for both Rhinestone and Gigli.

I have a very fond memory of watching Gigli in a theater and listening to it bomb with the audience.

Even in a vacuous space, no one can hear you sigh.

Rinestone Cowboy??????? Sorry, your hero Dolly wasn't in that movie. She should have been, it would have been worth watching then.
