11-mile elevated freeway for the ease of its upper classes. This is a brilliant study of its construction and workersâtheir
dangerous workplace, sexual taunting, and philosophical resignation to the fact that they will never own the cars their monument is intended to serve. A shrieking, noise-based score makes the mystical claim of some of the laborersâthat for every bridge built,
the devil takes one soulâseem almost persuasive. (
