Wooden Wand and the Vanishing Voice

(FREAKY FOLKIES) Prolific psychedelic folk rockers Wooden Wand and the Vanishing Voice surprisingly have captured the imaginations of both underground and mainstream music journalists and those who read them. At their most esoteric, WW&VV eerily meander through brambles of odd wind instruments, hand percussion, and distorted guitar howls. But these versatile hobo-bohos also enjoy composing prettily lilting tunes that wouldn't faze a Donovan or Devendra fan. WW&VV's music can take you to Dante's Inferno or to a congenial campfire sing-along with equal aplomb. (Gallery 1412, 1412 18th Ave, 322-1533. 8 pm, $5—$15, all ages.)
