(FILM) Those hoping Martin Scorsese would leave bloated epics behind and return to the streets have reason to rejoice. The Departed, his high-wattage remake of the Hong Kong film Infernal Affairs, is the much-imitated director's best film in years—a brutal yet surprisingly funny crime drama populated with strong performances, imaginative insults, and some genuinely shocking moments. It's not a perfect film, but it's damn close. (See Movie Times, page 97, for info.)
