(ART) I Too Am in Arcadia is Chicagoan Friese Undine's reference to the Latin inscription on a tomb in a 17th-century Nicolas Poussin painting of muscle-bound shepherds in the bucolic hills considering death's intrusion in the idyll. Undine draws from the history of expressionist graphics and propaganda—those buff WWI Russian poster girls come to mind—to sharply redress false idealization. His latest solo show runs through April 30 at William Traver, with the uncompromising steel paintings of Merrill Wagner. (William Traver Gallery, 110 Union St #200, 587-6501. Reception 5–8 pm, free.)
