'The Vivian Girls'

(MODERN DANCE) Local choreographer Pat Graney has never been one for boundaries, and creating a dance piece inspired by the delightful-yet-disquieting images of iconic outsider artist Henry Darger is an inspired choice. Graney takes Darger's mind-bending tome and constructs a loose interpretation that is aesthetically loyal to its source material (the childlike costumes are painstakingly replicated), but contrasts the story's more chilling and violent elements with movements that are alternately fluid and erratic. (Broadway Performance Hall, 1625 Broadway Ave, 325-6500, www.ticketwindowonline.com. 8 pm, $22.)
