Chili and Barbecue Competition

(SMOKIN' MEAT) Summer begins today! The weather augurs predict a sunny weekend and the Pike Place Market will fill its cobbled lane with the fourth annual cook-off—chicken, ribs, chili, sausage, and a fresh-squeezed-lemonade contest. Five dollars gets you a chili sampler's wristband. A couple more gets you pulled pork barbecue sandwiches. And you can wander around and watch the 15 barbecue teams, 20 chili teams, and other cooking demonstrations for sweet, sweet nothing. (Pike Place Market, 11 am–5 pm.)
