(READING EXTRAVAGANZA) The best things in life—books and booze—come together at this reading, interview, and multimedia party with London novelist Zadie Smith. Smith is the author of White Teeth, The Autograph Man, and, now, On Beauty, a novel about sex, beauty, Rembrandt, rap music, and the pleasures of being a hater. (It's also an homage to E. M. Forster and a Booker Prize contender.) Special guests tonight include Amos Latteier, a Portland artist, and the Dead Science, who will cover a beautiful song you might have heard before. Like everything worth anything in life, the whole thing's free. (Neumo's, 925 E Pike St, 709-9467. 7 pm doors/8 pm reading, free, 21+.)
