8. 11th Annual North City Jazz Walk
Combine your three favorite activities (listening, eating, walking) at the 11th Annual North City Jazz Walk this August. 10. Author Talk: Burma Superstar with Kate Leahy
Join Book Larder in welcoming Kate Leahy, recipe developer and co-author of Burma Superstar, her new cookbook based on the legendary Bay Area restaurant of the same name. 11. Salon of Shame

Argan Band combine traditional Moroccan and North African rhythms with traits of funk, jazz, and cosmic Americana to create a unique system of melodies. They'll be joined by ¡ESSO Afrojam Funkbeat and Jah Remedi.

16. Communist Eyes, Clint Westwood, The Emerald City Rebel, Bog
Join up with trash rockers Communist Eyes, booze-soaked veteran performer Clint Westwood, outlaw rock group The Emerald City Rebel, and bluegrass doom metal group Bog for a wild night out.

This'll be better than American Idol, because no one's judging. Sing out in the park!

18. The Boot: Annual Summer Young Writers Workshop Performance
The young spoken word artists of this year's Southwest Youth And Family Services Writers Workshop will throw down original rhymes. Stay afterwards for refreshments and a chance to meet the participants in the program.

19. Bree Loewen: Found: A Life in Mountain Rescue
Drink free beer with Bree Loewen, who has been a ranger on Mount Rainier and a Seattle EMT. Her book relates what it's like to head back into the mountains, time after time, to save victims of accidents and emergency situations. The venue, Outdoor Research, will also be raffling off gear.

20. The Detroit Rebellion and Global Resistance Movements
Revisit the civil protest moments of the 1960s with Michael Hardt (Assembly) and Scott Kurashige (The Fifty-Year Rebellion), who will examine the great rebellions of the last half-century and apply their lessons to today's resistance movement. They'll answer your questions after the talk.

21. Discovering Seattle Parks
You're probably aware that Seattle is full of wonderful parks—but did you realize we have more than 400 of them within city limits? Linnea Westerlind decided to visit them all, and she's here to report back and share her new book, Discovering Seattle Parks: A Local’s Guide.

22. Eric B. Larson and Joan Declaire
Dr. Eric B. Larson will share the results of his 30-year study on aging, a joint project between Group Health/Kaiser Permanente and UW, and read from his book Enlightened Aging: Building Resilience for a Long, Active Life. His co-author Joan DeClaire will also be there to answer questions.

23. History Café: Performing the Past: Reenacting History through Theater
Reference librarian Zola Mumford, Tyrone Brown of Brownbox Theater, and Jane Kaplan of Jewelbox Theater will converse about the growing interest in historical theater (cf. Hamilton) as well as questions of authenticity and theatrical space.

24. Beers Made by Walking: Cherry Creek Falls Trail
Beers Made By Walking invites you to hike with brewers and cider-makers (ciderers?) on a nature walk led by naturalists. You don't need to have an agenda other than enjoying yourself and getting some exercise, but the brewers have volunteered to make beer inspired by the plants they've encountered on the trail. Much later, these brews will be available to taste at Naked City, with the proceeds donated to the environmental organization Washington Wild.

27. Roommate Court with Judge Taylor Clark
Seattle's housing situation is notoriously stressful and leads to some poisonous Craigslist-induced cohabitations, so blow off a little steam at this show pitting real roommates against one another. Taylor Clark will hear the plaintiffs and defendants, prompt live reenactments, and pronounce a sentence on the guilty party. Plus, there will be stand-up comedy of some sort.

28. A Tribe Called Yes: Encore
This improvised hiphop play will depict a supergroup's rise to prominence amid "feuds, fame, and family." Created by Steve Lange.

29. Cannabis and Sex for Beginners: Hempfest Happy Hour with Ganja Goddess
The Ganja Goddess will share some hot canna-sex tips in advance of Hempfest. Get prepared for enhanced intercourse and shop toys and lubes with a 10% discount. The first five customers get free massage oil, and everyone old enough can have some sparkling wine.

30. So Bazaar
This market strives to create an "otherworldly atmosphere" with art installations and performances (including roller disco!). On the comestible side of things, enjoy food and drink from booths and trucks.

34. Summer Benefit Show for Washington Trails Association
Brother/sister folk duo Native Sibling, Drew Martin, and Steven Moore will play for your support of the Washington Trails Association.

35. Tiny Orchestral Moments
The experimental classical group Tiny Orchestral Moments will perform structured improvisation on guitar, voice, strings, wind, and percussion while weaving in and out of the audience ranks, all with a backdrop of ambient video. They'll be joined by Guitar Craft and special guests.

It's another installment of Margin Shift, featuring poetry readings by Melanie Noel, Josh Fomon, Alex Gallo-Brown, and Quenton Baker. Join them for great local writing and sips of wine.

39. Tom Perrotta
Tom Perrotta's latest novel Mrs. Fletcher, described as a "comedy of errors" by Publishers Weekly, seems like it might be a little less bleak than The Leftovers and Little Children. It's about a divorced empty-nester whose life is jolted into sexual high gear when she receives an anonymous lewd text.

40. 14/48 + Nordo: Food Theater Thunderdome
On the Sunday before each week's performances, four playwrights and chefs are paired together to create plays on a theme featuring a randomly selected director and cast. The resulting shows, starting just five days later in true 14/48 "World's Quickest Theater Festival" style, will also feature four-course menus based on "randomly selected secret ingredients" for an unusual and immersive dinner theater experience.

41. Auction of Washington Wines
The annual Auction of Washington Wines, back for its 30th year, features a solid lineup of wine-related events, including a winemaker picnic, winemaker dinners, a charity walk, and a closing gala.

Comic and notable mimic Aries Spears (American Dad, The Pest, Black Dynamite (the TV show)) will bring riffs and funny impressions to Bellevue.

44. Chief Seattle Days
Every year, the Suquamish tribe honors Chief Seattle in a tradition dating back to 1911. As in the first year, the organizers hold a salmon bake, canoe races, drumming, dance events, a baseball tournament, and a memorial for the Suquamish leader. That's not all, though: Over the years, new traditions have been added, like golf, hardball, a Youth Royalty Pageant, a market, the Coastal Jam, a fun run, and a pow wow. The events take place at the House of Awakened Culture and elsewhere in town.

Mark O'Connor and his family band pay a loving tribute to Americana in its diverse forms, with a mixture of traditional Appalachian folk music and their own original works.

54. United States Air Force Band of the Golden West: The Commanders Jazz Ensemble
The Commanders Jazz Ensemble intends to further the American musical tradition of the great traveling big bands of yore, with a group of 20 highly-trained professional airmen-musicians performing the music of jazz legends like Duke Ellington, Woody Herman, and Count Basie, and contemporary big band leaders and composers like Gordon Goodwin and Maria Schneider.

Enjoy the art and hear musical performances by loop-heavy singer-songwriter Emily McVicker, Norman Baker and the Backroads, and others.

For enthusiasts of permanently decorated flesh, here are three days to admire the art of the tattoo needle-wielder. See displays, attend seminars, and find the right artist to punch that sweet Bob Ferguson tat into your skin.

60. Snoqualmie Railroad Days
The Northwest rail system may not be grand compared to days of yore, but Snoqualmie still has "79 years of Trains, Timber, Traditions" to celebrate. During this festival, the town remembers its years as a logging and railroad center and honors the Snoqualmie Indian Tribe. See and make plein air art, drink beer and wine, and take train excursions.

A woman suffering from "hyperempathy" tries out a new drug called Neuroclear to increase her efficiency at work and in life in this dystopian-sounding, tech-skeptical play by Elisabeth Frankel.

62. SANCA Staff Show: Summer on the Cirque Riviera
Pretend you're lounging in the French riviera as SANCA's acrobats whirl, spin, and tumble in the air.

63. TOAST: A Bar Play
A barkeep prepares to batten down the hatches in preparation for a massive storm when an unexpected friend shows up. This play bills itself as "a comedic exploration of friendship and promises; of lost souls and their final Judgement" and is the last part of WanderLost Theater's first season.

64. Paw & Pounce Weekend
This weekend is dedicated to puppy boys and the men who love them. Socialize at the Meet 'n' Sniff on Friday, attend workshops in consent and relationship dynamics and then party on Saturday, and chow down on barbecue with new playmates on Sunday. Plus, you can learn about competing in the Northwest Puppy and Handler contest.

67. Derek Sheen, Emmett Montgomery, Thomas Nichols, Nicole Ash Bailey, Chase Roper, Bo Johnson
Tragic-eyed comedian Derek Sheen will perform a set, perhaps explaining in what way he's "a good guy who makes bad decisions." Because: "My point is, everyone's done stuff that they don't want to talk about. When one person admits to it, it takes the weight off everyone else's shoulders and makes their problems seem okay. I make your horrific mistakes seem okay!" He'll be joined by Emmett Montgomery and other funny locals.

68. Lee Camp
Former Onion writer, current host of Redacted Tonight, and creator of the web series Moment of Clarity Lee Camp has a fiercely liberal sense of humor that's earned him millions of viewers. We have no doubt he'll be especially fiery on this night, times being what they are.

69. Not Too Late with El Sanchez
The late show with local favorite Elicia Sanchez and "comedian/non-musician" Nick Sahoyah promises stunts, music, comedy, weirdness, and surprises, featuring Kevin the Cameraman, teenage Cool Correspondents, comedy by Abraham Tadesse and Dewa Dorje, and performance by Dominic Spozanotti and Enzo "Cadillac" Lorenzo.

70. Mini-Horses
Some events don't need a whole lot of description. There will be two mini-horses at this beer bar. Their names are Calamity Jane and Sunny. They come from a mini-horse farm in Olympia. Kids are welcome to come along. Adults are encouraged to partake in horse-themed drinks. There will be a crowd. Clear?

71. Saber Battle Seattle
Battle for good—or the fun kind of evil—with your brand new lightsaber, which you can order from the Glow Battle Tour for $5 to $10. Kids are welcome to take part.

50 Washington breweries have collaboratively concocted 27 one-of-a-kind beers, and you can taste the results. Options will include Crucible Brewing and Postdoc Brewing's double plum sour, Scuttlebutt Brewing and Diamond Knot Craft Brewing's ginger and chili pepper-infused Thai Me Down lager, and Three Magnets Brewing and Skookum Brewing's Puff, Pass IPA, which is brewed with puffed rice.

76. Layne Staley Tribute 2017
In honor of what would have been Layne Staley's 50th birthday, friends, family, and fans will gather in celebration of his life and legacy. Alice in Chains tribute group Jar of Flies will cover songs by AIC as well as super group Mad Season.

77. Neal Kosaly-Meyer: Gradus
Pianist Neal Kosaly-Meyer's Gradus is a "continuing micro-epic contemplation of a small but growing collection of piano pitches, and a demonstration of the infinite sound-worlds potentially present in a few notes." Adventurous listeners wanted.

78. Quiver, Wtrbel, Thunder Grey Pilgrim, Yellow Dragon
Strengthen your connection with nature thanks to musicians inspired by our lush and gorgeous environment, including "wyrd Cascadian folk" by Quiver, "freaky folk" by Wtrbel, "doom folk" by Thunder Grey Pilgrim, and "Experimental Medieval Elemental Devotionals" by Yellow Dragon.

79. Unihorn
David Dolengewicz has played with such local groups as Freudian Slurp, Circular Reasoning, Da Beckoning Band, and the Jazz Police. On this night, hear him perform on woodwind and loop pedal to enchant you with "experimental soundscapes."

In Joshua Conkel's new play, which will be read by Elena Flory-Barnes and Jessica Severance, two former classmates bump into each other at an AA meeting. This presentation is part of ACTivate, a theater lab for inspiring social change and addressing urgent issues.

81. Fantasy with DJ Kitty Glitter
All the way from Sydney, award-winning former drag star and current world-traveling DJ Kitty Glitter (she's played for Lady Gaga and others) will bring glamor and house mixes to Seattle.

82. SO(U)L: A QTPOC-Centered Festival of Dance, Fashion, Food + Art
Queer/trans people of color will be celebrated at this waterfront festival of fashion, dance (by Au Collective and Remix), music (by Toya B), art to purchase, and food.

Water Wise Week is a Conservatory event to raise awareness of water conservation using xeriscaping (landscaping without irrigation) and hydrophobic plants. Come for art shows, workshops, and a garden party to cap off the week.

90. Love for Our Living Ancestor Trees
Native artists will raise awareness for our tree canopy and the health of our waters and their denizens through storytelling, speaking, and music. Performers will include the drummers of Spearfish, Duwamish storyteller Blake Shelafo, the Red Eagle Soaring Native American Youth Group, flutists Peter Ali and Paul Wagner, and poet Janette K. Conger, plus Duwamish tribal elders Ken Workman and Cecile Hansen. There will also be a signing of the Tokitae Proclamation, which proclaims the necessity of making the Salish Sea an orca sanctuary.

BrasilFest celebrates the blend of indigenous, Portuguese, and African cultures that make the huge South American country's life, music, food, and culture so fascinating. Hear samba, guitar, and folk music, see capoeira demos, and partake in luscious Brazilian food.

The W Hotel believes in you. More specifically, they believe: "you can work out, dance and drink all at the same time." You're probably familiar with drinking games, and this one follows those same rules but with Drake and yoga. The class will start with a 20-minute vinyasa flow sesh, and when you hear the cues (certain poses called out or Drake songs), you drink. And drink. And drink some more.
