Maybe he bought them at that Pioneer Square gallery that was busted a few years ago for selling a shit-ton of fake antiquities.

Fascinating piece. I enjoy Ai's winking challenge to the notion of "authenticity", though I know many find his iconoclasm infuriating.

Still, it might be prudent to avoid encouraging vandalism right in your headline (the one on Slog, not the one above).

He's such a badass.

Here's a little video he made about his imprisonment.

too much context, not enough visual interest.
5
There's so little art in Ai Weiwe and way too much narrative, though that describes the "art" world in general at this point. He should write a book, and protest, and talk, but being known as an "artist" is ridiculous. He's a story, not an artist, and while there is overlap between the two, the distinction shouldn't be lost.

Hoodwinked.

I would suggest that "AI's winking challenge to the notion of 'authenticity'," a trope that has become a staple of the contemporary art scene for at least half a century, is itself inauthentic.
8
I found them quite beautiful.
9
If you find them smashed,I didn't do it...
10
We don't like art.

Well, for as much attention as SAM pays to local artists, maybe someone should smash a Wei Wei vase or two...

Please wait...
