The gif is hilarious. The guy holding the signs actually seems so intent in having his face in the TV camera that he doesn't notice the sign getting pulled away by someone who appears exceptionally tall. And then when its pulled away we see that it he was holding just an inch or so, if that, in front of the face of a short person and possibly others we can't see, rather than holding it in front of his own face. Total expose material.
He should read Kim Ghattas "The Secretary." He'll see that he is wrong. Hillary has been advocating for Palestine to have its own state since she was First Lady in 1998. It actually got her in trouble, since she was ahead of White House policy on it.
@6 @7 You might want to consider more recent history... like 2014, when Clinton cheered on the mass-murder of 500 Palestinian children, and praised the IDF for targeting schools and hospitals. Or even more recently, when she vowed unconditional support for racist psychopath Netanyahu.
Per the DNC Convention website, under the security page, it says that "banners, signs, and placards of any type or size" are prohibited items inside the arena, so I'm assuming this means that the campaigns provide the signs we've all been seeing once delegates are inside the hall? Perhaps this particular sign is one that was brought into the arena in contravention of the rules?
Great job on the balanced reporting here, Stranger. Seattle Times covered this yesterday morning and at least spoke to the delegate who took the sign. It should be mentioned that the individual originally claimed that the delegate tore his sign up. It later transpired that this was not the case.
If the sign was snatched as the result of anti-Palestinian bias, that's not okay and the individual who did so should be punished. If the sign was snatched because it was brought in against DNC rules and its holder was attempting to get the sign into the camera frame at any cost, I have a hard time being sympathetic.
Remember the embarrassing show at the last convention when the people on stage tried to put an "Always stand by Israel no matter what" plank in the platform, the crowd basically shouted it down, and the guy on stage just kind of blinked and claimed it passed, to a chorus of boos?
Good times. The cheering of Israel's slow genocide of the Palestinian people continues by the elites of both parties. Fuck them all.
@9, What is your source for that? Sanders lied about this during the debate: http://www.factcheck.org/2016/04/factche…
Again, read the Secretary. Hillary's meetings with Netanyahu as Secretary of State are covered in detail, and she has consistently pushed for them to have their own state.
@15: Did you never look up swear words in the dictionary when you were a kid?
You know what those words mean, so if you have something of substance to say, or a question to ask, feel free to just do so. No need to pretend to be dumb in order to be coy.
"The sign was yanked out of his hands by Lona Wilbur, a Democratic National Committee member from La Conner, Skagit County.
Wilbur said she did not see what was on the sign when she grabbed it. “It had nothing to do with what was on the sign at all,” she said. “It had nothing to do with the content.” She said she did not rip the sign and returned it later intact to an arena staffer so it could be returned.
Wilbur said she believed the sign was blocking the views of people behind it. “The sign was there. We were doing roll call. I thought it was blocking someone’s face.” Tearing up, she said she was sorry and that she had tried to apologize to Al-Bahadli."
Al-Bahadli is pathetic trying to make this into something other than it was and is the one who should be apologizing. Even as he made sure his own face was making it on TV he was blocking that of another person with his sign. Give me a break.
@21 Clinton couldn't even call Israel out on bombing of UN schools in Gaza in 2014: Paying lip service to an idea (2 states solution) while doing the opposite (sitting on your hands while Israel steals Palestinian land and murders innocent Palestinians) is the specialty of right wing Democrats.
I remember watching this as it happened. The sign repeatedly dipped down in front of a woman's face or hit her on the top of her head, and she would bat it away. It was distracting. The 4(?)th time, another woman reached over and grabbed it out of his hand. I can totally understand if she didn't think the action was political (it WAS blocking someone's view) but I was curious at the time if it had anything to do with the content.
I don't get the hatred either, but I would like to focus on our problems here at home for a change. I support equality throughout the world and the sign grabbing sounds aggressive and hateful. However, I feel that this political process is about America and should be about ourselves and our issues. Not focused on the needs and expectations of the biased and unjust world as we are most all the time.
Yes! I demand the right to hold a sign in someone's face, blocking their view while they watch the event they paid lots of money and worked really hard to get to! Similarly, stand still while I tattoo "No TPP" on your forehead, or else you are a globalist corporatist shill!
@5,@18 You have no idea what you're talking about. The sign-holder isn't in the frame at all. And sure, believe the word of the unelected, Clinton-supporting superdelegate instead of your own eyes. Why didn't she take down the 8-foot wide, non-sanctioned Hillary banner instead?
