Jen Graves (The Stranger’s former arts critic) mostly writes about things you approach with your eyeballs. But she’s also a history nerd interested in anything that needs more talking about, from male pregnancy to white race denial. A finalist for the 2014 Pulitzer Prize in Criticism, Graves also was a nominee for the 2014 Best Art Reporting award from the US chapter of the International Association of Art Critics, and her writing has been published in art magazines including Art in America and ArtNews as well as in places such as The Believer, Newsweek.com, Newsday, Variety, History Link, and American Book Review. As the recipient of a Creative Capital | Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant, she wrote “This Land Is False Land.” She developed her own curriculum and taught modern and contemporary art history for three years at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, and she also taught creative nonfiction writing to teens at Centrum in Port Townsend.
