Angela Garbes

Angela Garbes began her food writing career as a freelancer for The Stranger in 2006, joined the staff in 2014, and is now freelancing once again amid writing books; Like a Mother: A Feminist Journey Through the Science and Culture of Pregnancy comes out May 29, 2018. She grew up in a food-obsessed, immigrant Filipino household where every meal (from sinigang to Little Ceasar’s pizza served with a side of white rice) was rooted in family history and culture. She took a short break from writing to travel, eat at every market possible on three continents, work as a server at a restaurant, and study nutrition. She spends most of her spare time marveling as her young daughter discovers the world, including every possible food she can feed her.
