In 30+ years of renting cars, I can't remember a single instance where picking up a car at an airport cost less than at in-town locations (for the same car model and rental company). There isn't always an extra charge for airport pick-up, but in my experience it's NEVER cheaper.

The light rail is 20.75 miles long. 14 miles was for Westlake to SeaTac.

A couple things the article doesn't mention but would be good to keep in mind:
1) One bus away (oba) is accurate about 80% of the time. So most of the time it's great but it will occasionally screw you over. Sometimes you'll get to the bus stop and the app will tell you that your bus is on it's way but then after waiting longer than oba indicated you'll check it and it will tell you that your bus left already.

2) The Burke Gilman trail is very crowded these days during rush hour. Wear a helmet and watch out for other users. In particular be on the alert for the super serious cyclists. These are usually cismen with expensive bikes, tricked out with lots of gear, going very, very fast. They will expect you to get out of their way and given the aggressive way they ride, that's probably a good idea.

I wonder if there is a reason ReachNow isn't mentioned in the car sharing section... Reach Now, Zipcar, and Car2Go are all equally worthy of mentioning.

Traffic has always been horrible. Just plan ahead, leave early, and enjoy some tunes or the time to gather your thoughts as you drive to your designation in the comfort of your own automobile.

@3 Really this could also say: "2) The Burke Gilman trail is very crowded these days during rush hour. Wear a helmet and watch out for other users. In particular be on the alert for clueless pedestrians on cell phones. These are usually fellow students, often also wearing headphones and texting while walking. They won't respond to numerous passing signals while wandering aimlessly up the center of the trail."

Yep, cars complain that bikes need to watch where they are going and bikes complain that pedestrians need to watch where they are going. Fuck it, everyone put your life in the hands of a stranger (who may be high/drunk) and feel free to obey whatever traffic laws are convenient for you.

I missed the item that mentioned "It's gonna rain every fucking day for nine months straight, so buy some waterproof shit to walk/bus/bike around in." This is the reason people have cars even though they live & work in the city.

Don't use king county.gov to plan your bus trip. Use Google Maps. It allows you to actually punch in the name of a business instead of a street corner.

Oh, just get a car. Traffic's not so bad. You'll need a car as you get older anyway.

Please wait...
