The Trump presidency has mainly been a sick, sad horror show reflecting its chief's narcissism and pathological duplicity. That said, bullying, egotistical delusion, bribery, harassment, and retaliation characterize much of the political landscape. Trump stands out, even in this bleakness, as a genuine mob boss. One could call him "President Omerta" with a straight face. His understanding of life is based on three principles: 1) it's okay to lie if it works; 2) it's wrong to be honest if it means exposing his or his gang's criminal activity; 3) he, Donald Trump, is the most amazing, accomplished, brilliant human being who ever lived, and your basic responsibility is to recognize and celebrate this. "Mafia-cracy" describes this far more accurately than "democracy"--but our system has checks and balances, and they've been moderately effective at containing the damage. Now, opposition to Trump should not implode over every petty disagreement. Our country needs Trump out of the White House. The horror show needs to end--or else we might as well call our president "Caesar." We don't want to be a second Rome--and that, with Trump especially, remains a relevant concern.

Paying Stormy to keep quiet is not a campaign expenditure.
Sorry to bust your bubble.
Take it to a jury and you will find out.

Dan asks how could anyone watch it for 2 plus hours? Who could not? The President of the United States of America going off the rails and being so unusual. It was surreally fascinating. Like driving by a auto-wreck. It also had a talk-radio tempo - like Rush.

I had no trouble writing code in another window while monitoring the entire spectacle.

Look; I don't want to admit this but lately I've been yearning for George W Bush as president again.

I don't like it; I hate it. He spoke with more intelligence
:/

Was driving home from a hike Saturday evening and listening to the news headlines on NPR when they played like a 3 or 4 second clip from the speech in which he did that thing where he speaks in the nasally, mocking tone of a 7-year old and (presumably imitating democratic legislators) said, "oooh, we're gonna look into his finances, we want to see his taxes..."

I gotta say... I thought it was funny as hell and laughed my ass off. I mean, it's just so completely absurd and surreal and it's possible to lose track of that utter absurdity when engaged in your day-to-day. Could you possibly imagine Obama doing that, adopting that goofy, imbecilic tone in order to condescendingly insult someone? Or even (@5) GWB? Dude had a freaking mountain of integrity by comparison. What an embarrassment.

We, the People, need to do the obvious: Build a wall around Trumpty Dumpty and Lock it UP, already!!!
@1: Agreed and seconded.
@2 & @5: Seek immediate medical and psychological attention. This is what happens when you don't get your shots.
@4: Stop if you start seeing stars, sugarlips. Your triglycerides must be running high again.

8

@5: It would be nice to have Laura back as well.

9

@8: Speak for yourself. I'm glad the evil, oil-soaked Bush dynasty is all but dead. Munching Girl Scout cookies doean't automatically make you a Girl Scout, sugarlips.

@10: Democracy, when truly a government of the people, for the people, by the people---as in all 100% of us---does indeed work, and when universally affordable healthcare, housing, and education and sustainable wages can be acquired by everyone--not just the insanely wealthy and corrupt 1%. We currently face the worst national deficit in history under Trumpty Dumpty's neo-fascist Banana Republi-KKK. This country suffered equally disastrous economic recessions and enormous deficits during the Reagan and Bush Sr & Jr years (when George H.W. Bush stated 'Read my lips--no new taxes!'---he specifically meant no new taxes on the wealthy. The Gulf War in 1991 with Iraq was declared only to protect oil interests in the Middle East. Dubya 's overblown, costly Iraq war was only to continue what his daddy started). When the Clintons and Gores were in the White House, the United States had an economic surplus. Government safety nets, such as Social Security and Medicare were put in place by Franklin Delano Roosevelt during WWII; the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was enacted by Lyndon Baines Johnson to stop gerrymandering and illegal voter restrictions.
If you like your rights and freedoms as a U.S. citizen and don't want to permanently lose them, then thank a veteran and a Democrat. RepubliKKKans--especially Trumpty Dumpty and its equally self-serving allies gloating over their newly given corporate tax breaks---don't give a shit.

Get ready for Trump's second term, the way democrats are fighting with each other is not inspiring me with confidence that they'll unify to take Trump down.

We'll no doubt see them split their votes between Bernie and others just like last time if the progressives, etc. don't happen to like the party's chosen candidate. Many of us thought Trump could never happen in the first place, are we ready to see history repeat itself?

13

@12: Oh, Rick-----gawd, NO!!!! This is 2019. I can't take another DAY of Trumpty Dumpty! And the rest of the world can't afford it either. All further blood shed and land destroyed is entirely the fault of gluttonous RepubliKKKans, their lawyers, lobbyists, and dupes.

15

@14: You might want to try SpellCheck before posting. Your MAGA cap is on way too tight, Mr. Fried.

16

@14: Oh, but nuthin' lahk RepubliKKKans fattening 'em up and dumbing 'em down, eh, Mr. Fried? Keep on scarfing down those Big Mac Super Size Value Meals---'cuz they're deep fat FRIED! That's exactly what Trumpty Dumpty and its GOP base WANT you to do---before Trumpty Dumpty's fatal heart attack--and YOURS! And if y'all die from the non-vaxxers-induced measles epidemic, if not a heart attack? It's just yer TIME......'cus the KKKorporate Gawd SAID So!

17

@14:....and the MAGAtards keep on crawling out of the sewers until common sense and democracy are restored. Of course, the White Trash House will have to be fully scrubbed, sterilized, disinfected and fumigated before the next actually legitimately elected President
of the United States takes oval office....

@14 has typical revisionist history to shriek about. Why do these republicans constantly lie about everything when they know we can just look up the truth with a few keystrokes? NAFTA passed with more Republicans voting for it than Democrats, yet good 'ol FriedFrendly pretending (lying) that it was all Democrats. From Wikipedia "the U.S. House of Representatives passed the North American Free Trade Agreement Implementation Act on November 17, 1993, 234–200. The agreement's supporters included 132 Republicans and 102 Democrats. The bill passed the Senate on November 20, 1993, 61–38.[23] Senate supporters were 34 Republicans and 27 Democrats."

You're a liar, FriedFrendly. Just like every republican I've ever met.
