Yes.
Pushing for impeachment means Trump is both bully and victim -At the same time!
Dems are wiser to fight over the issues, and not over personalities.

When asked if she would impeach George W Bush, Nancy Pelosi responded that impeachment was off the tableā€.

The ladyā€™s not for turning. It doesnā€™t matter who the POTUS is. She will never impeach them, under any circumstances.

Thereā€™s no grand strategy. She isnā€™t playing ā€œ14 dimensional chessā€. This is, as Dan briefly alluded to, the typical approach of a centrist Democrat. Thereā€™s always another election coming, and itā€™s better to compromise your principles than it is to compromise the chances of Joe Manchin winning re-election.

This is about power. Winning it, keeping it, sustaining it. There are no ā€œprinciplesā€. There are only elections. This is the hashtag resistance. Clap your hands like a walrus, or publish a side-eye glare on Buzzfeed News, but donā€™t fuck with anything substantial.

But oh yeah, the real problem isnā€™t Pelosi, itā€™s the socialists who arenā€™t on Instagram like Kshama Sawant. Because the real threat to America is Bernie Sanders and Sawant who donā€™t clap like a walrus. And why are they such a threat? Because they actually would impeach the POTUS, and not just post #ITMFA on Facebook.

Time will tell, and I know she's been bad about this before, but it is the sort of approach I would take - "Oh, we won't even think about that unless we find out something really awful!" (knowing full well that there is something awful). But there's a reason I am not Speaker Of The House.

And I'll quietly murmur that George W Bush, as awful as he was, was no donald trump. Yes, Bush is a war criminal, but the majority of Americans see him as an aw shucks American Boy from a noble family leading us in a time of war. (did I mention that the majority of Americans are somewhat dumb?) Giving trump a failed impeachment would validate his presidency among those very same people that liked Bush. Impeachment may feel good morally, and it completely the right thing to do, but you have to have your ducks in a row to succeed.

@1 pat L: Agreed.
@3 German Sausage: This time I have to disagree with you. See pat L's (@1) and Catalina's (@4) comments. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is playing her cards right---because for someone representing 350 million U.S. citizens and voters she HAS to.
@4 Catalina Vel-DuRay: I think another commenter....RickFromTexas?...Original Andrew?....said it best---ITMFA should equal INDICT the m-----f---er already. FBI investigator Robert Mueller (I wonder how he feels being listed as a registered Republican nowadays!) has more than enough incriminating evidence to send Trump and its abettors to prison. Impeachment, while agreed, is the right thing to do, but would only make Mike Pence #46. UGH! Trumpty Dumpty is a criminally insane, heartless, and clueless turd. Pence knows exactly what he's doing which makes him more dangerous.

The "Grand Strategy" is that House impeachment, without Senate conviction and removal from office, is useless. You kids need to ask Bill Clinton about that.

Impeachment would give lefties a chance to fist-bump each other for a couple days, and then Trump will still be President until 2021. A better route is to vote for a Democratic candidate for President, or if necessary, Democratic Senators.

7

The Grand Strategy is making sure Dan Lipinski wins the primary. Because, as Pelosi reminded us, ā€œWeā€™re capitalists. Get used to it.ā€.

Want to impeach Trump? Vote DSA.

8

Like Elliot Richardson did for Agnew, our AG William Barr needs to craft a package that would nullify federal and state charges against Trump and his family in exchange for his resignation. Trump would take it in a NYC second.

So Nancy Pelosi in addition to being able to count can tell time as well. In slightly more then 3/4 of a year it will be 2020 and our next Presidential election will start. As soon as the 2020 election starts, January first twenty twenty, any talk of impeachment will be met with "let the voters decide" and that dog will not only no-longer hunt it will be dead.

To all of you calling for impeachment now how exactly are you going to pull that off in under nine months, with the Republican party constantly throwing up procedural road blocks in both the House and the Senate?

Do the math people impeachment is a fools errand. Work to flip the Senate instead.

@9: Yes, but I think it's important to go ahead with hearings even without the votes. If nothing else than to establish a precedent for future congresses not to be so trepidatious when dealing with a runaway chief executive.

11

I appreciated the dig against AiS that Dan made around the 11 minute mark.

@10: Agreed. Everyone seems to forget about precedents. Lawyers seem to be big fans of taking cues from established precedence. Ford pardoning Nixon was a terrible precedent to set, and the shit Nixon did pales to what Trump has done.

12

Still grasping at the desperate hope of impeachment. Are you really so unsure of the Democrats' ability to beat Trump in 2020? Then again, given the eagerness of the Dem establishment to repeat the failed 2016 electoral strategies of Hillary Clinton (identity politics, Russia, etc.), beating Trump may not be a sure thing. tsk tsk
