Another problem with the Packers model is that the business model of the Packers remained viable, the team can still make the oodles of money that is required to field a successful team.

Hey, actually you know only part of the story. The P-I reporters are considering a consumer/worker cooperative and other models, not just the Packers plan. A UW prof seems to favor the cooperative model:
