Come on, Bryce. There are a lot more important problems than Sri Lanka to worry about.
Timothy Bryce: Like what?
Patrick Bateman: Well, we have to end apartheid for one. And slow down the nuclear arms race, stop terrorism and world hunger. We have to provide food and shelter for the homeless, and oppose racial discrimination and promote civil rights, while also promoting equal rights for women. We have to encourage a return to traditional moral values. Most importantly, we have to promote general social concern and less materialism in young people.

Withholding the financial aid will increase the genocide? Is that what they want?
3
Tamil Tigers: At one point the number one suicide bombers in the world*. Also noted for an efficient use of child soldiers and some pretty effective ethnic cleansing

*More than most Palestinian liberation groups combined!
4
The financial aid would increase genocide, they say. I juggled the punctuation to clarify that. Thanks, rejemy.
5
@1 Nice reference! Thank you. Put a smile on my face.
6
Seriously, fuck the Tamil Tigers. Sri Lanka has a horrible history, and the Tigers are responsible for a good half of it. Ending that civil war is a good thing.
7
All I wanna do is
Click Click Boom Boom Boom Ring
and withhold financial aid to the country.
8
At this point, we could embargo Sri Lanka totally and the Tigers would still lose. We should be concentrating our efforts on pushing for more official acceptance of Tamil and a quota system akin to the one for Dalits in India.
9
Yeah.

Still don't care.

Even if I've seen ten movies about them.
10
F the Tigers. Biggest dicks on the planet when they were doing well, hat in hand now that the chickens have come home to roost.

This comment is just for you Dominic...

the defeat of the tigers is a done deal at this point - if they don't want more genocide of the tamil people, THEY COULD FUCKING SURRENDER.
13
@12 for the goddamned win.
14
Hey Will,
You are a Clueless Dumbass.

and @12: the genocide issue may be overplayed, but that does not mean that these people are not deserving of a homeland nor a political voice.
15
Why come to America if you actually give a shit about your home in some other part of the world?

Last I heard the definition of Genocide is "the deliberate and systematic extermination of a national, racial, political, or cultural group." UN just today released that over 6500 Tamils have perished in this brutal on-going massacre by Sri Lankan Army since January of '09. The number is well over 90,000+ since the civil war took violent turn in early 80's.
If everything is hunky dory, why did the SL government stopped allowing any media persons to the North East (NE) Sri Lanka since September ‘08? Why did they remove all NGOs from NE Sri Lanka since last October ‘08? When was the last time you heard a democratically elected government bombing its own citizen? Would it be ok for you to remove all Hispanics from Miami and move them to Atlanta, Nashville and St. Louis? In fact, Tamils have been in NE Sri Lanka for centuries. When Portuguese and Dutch ruled Ceylon (now, Sri Lanka) they always ruled as two separate kingdoms (NE Sri Lanka was a Tamil Kingdom). It’s only when British ruled Sri Lanka during 19th Century, for administrative convenience, they merged the kingdoms. Problem started when Brits left after Independence in 1948. It was a non-violent struggle for 25+ years and then it took a violent turn as an armed struggle during early 80’s. Sri Lankan government has been systematically placing Sinhalese in Tamil areas since 60's. May be this is not Genocide for you, but for me this is slam dunk case.

You say child soldiers? When was the last time a Tamil Child in NE touched a book in peace to study? NE Sri Lanka has been subject to food embargo probably even before y'all were born. These kids have lost their mothers, fathers, and siblings. What do you want them to do? Go end up in Sri Lankan Army concentration camps? or be a sex object or a slave? Why do people look at a causal effect rather than a problem. Guess what? This is how we’ve grown up in today’s media world.

Even Hitler said to his Army to avoid Educational institution and Hospitals. Sri Lankan government publicly enjoys bombing Tamil schools, libraries and hospitals in NE Sri Lanka and they continue to do this. These well documented. These guys are worse than Milasevic or Bashir. We say Saddam was bad, Sri Lankan government has been using Cluster Bombs and Chemical Weapons as recently as last week. And Sri Lankan Defense Minister is a US Citizen, what are we doing here? Is it all OK for you, a US citizen orchestrating all this on a “minority”??

LTTE (aka Tigers) is not a cause, they are a product of a fundamental problem. Yes, they have used unacceptable methods to free Tamils. Why do we think it is ok for a government to use unconventional way of fighting a war but not for a resistance force? In any case, who knows may be you’d call George Washington a “terrorist.”

That's Sri Lanka’s Tamil problem 101 for you.

Thank you Bryce for rising above bar and talking about this.

To all the ignoramuses out there, these problems hit our pocket books and sometimes spilling our blood.... read on if you care.

U.S. Tax payer $$ funding IMF which in turn props up despotic governments around the world means only one thing - We get reamed in the rear to cleanup because WE THE PEOPLE amplified the fucking problem.

SADAM HUSSEIN shook hands with Ronald Rumsfeld, gased the kurds, slaugthered the Iraninans and now our BLOOD is patroling the fucking desert!

China is propping up many regimes in Africa. It is doing the same in Sri Lanka. World shipping lanes pass near that sorry ass excuse for paradise.

We can be SMART about fixing the problems early or pay dearly later. Kosovo, Sebrnica, Rwanda & Darfur are examples of us having to provide aid and stay in the game so we can hold on to the title as a super power.

Sri Lanka is a sorry excuse for a democracy and I hope my TAX $$ don't get over-spent there.
19
Right on!

I want my tax dollars to go to our schools and NOT to the U.N. or IMF which are both, worthless.

Please wait...
