The area next to Pony may be seeing a little green space. The Seattle Department of Transportation wants to use the neighborhood street fund to reclaim part of the roadway and put in wider sidewalks, angled parking, and more landscaping.

From the design doc:

"Reclaim" approximately 3500 sq. ft. of roadway by narrowing Union St and providing wider sidewalks, pedestrian lighting, landscaping, angled parking, and improved bicycle connections. Reduce pedestrian crossing distances along Madison and 13th St.

The Central District News story says that the "recent move of Pony to the spot has been an enabling factor in the project, as the previous florist that was on the site required delivery truck access from Union. But Pony has no need for those, making room for the pedestrian amenities instead."
