You're confusing political and polemical. And I'm guessing you like his "tough, uncompromising stands on political issues" only because they're in line with your own ideas.

...completely unafraid to offend his audience by taking tough, uncompromising stands on political issues...

...and then write incredibly shitty novels based on them, where every character sounds like Cory Doctorow writing a blog post. (Except for the ones that sound like the commenters on his blog posts.)
