CNN:

A nearly 25-year study concluded that children raised in lesbian households were psychologically well-adjusted and had fewer behavioral problems than their peers. The study, published Monday in the journal Pediatrics, followed 78 lesbian couples who conceived through sperm donations and assessed their children's well-being through a series of questionnaires and interviews.

All the kids in the study—kids with lesbian parents who went to sperm banks—were wanted children, planned for children, and that makes a huge difference. It would be helpful to know if researchers controlled for that somehow; a study that compares a pool of wanted children to a pool that includes wanted children and unwanted children, planned for kids and accidents, isn't exactly making an apples-to-apples comparison. And from CNN's report it doesn't sound like researchers were comparing wanted, planned-for kids raised by lesbians to wanted, planned-for kids raised by straights ("data was compared with data from children of nonlesbian families").

That doesn't mean we can't take a moment to savor the fact that the finding of this study—kids with two moms are "rated higher in social, academic and total competence," and show "lower rates in social, rule-breaking, aggressive problem behavior"—are going to drive the haters nuts.

But then, alas, we have to confront this:

Funding for the research came from several lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender advocacy groups, such as the Gill Foundation and the Lesbian Health Fund from the Gay Lesbian Medical Association.

The haters are already crying bias:

Wendy Wright, president of the Concerned Women for America, a group that supports biblical values, questioned the legitimacy of the findings from a study funded by gay advocacy groups. "That proves the prejudice and bias of the study," she said. "This study was clearly designed to come out with one outcome—to attempt to sway people that children are not detrimentally affected in a homosexual household."

I'm happy to scrap the results of this study—this peer-reviewed, 25-year-study—on the condition that the haters stop citing the results of discredited, non-peer-reviewed studies funded by anti-gay advocacy groups, studies that are "designed to come out with" anti-gay outcomes, studies conducted by disgraced and discredited "scientists" like Dr. George Rekers.

Deal?
