"Later the priest apologized saying he thought the man he groped was really only 12 years old"
2
How's that "no sex" thing working for you?
3
Yeah right. Who goes into the woods at a stop-n-ride to pee?
4
"Prosecutors say the alleged victim pulled into the lot about 8:30 a.m. on Monday and walked into the woods to go to the bathroom."

Yeah, sure. Whatever.

I love YPW, but this time you missed the mark, Dan. Priesty-boy was just looking for a quickie in the woods, found a likely candidate in a guy who turned out to be OF LEGAL AGE, and made a move. He just guessed wrong, that's all. No traumatized 12 year old boys with sore butts here. Slam the disgusting hypocrisy of the Catholic Church all you want, Dan, and I'll agree with you 100%, but let this one go.
5
@1, that made me choke on my drink. Brilliant!
6
I think this qualifies for YPW in that dude isn't living the life he's saying he should. However he's not nearly as egregious a failure of a human being as the average YPW inductee.
7
On a side note, that guy has very, very gay facial hair. "Neatly trimmed" I think they call it.
8
@4: Part of the hypocrisy of the Catholic Church is that priests are supposed to be celibate. This is another example of their hypocrisy, and the church will not be well until its celibacy requirements and renunciation of gays ends.

When a Catholic priest is caught seeking gay sex, it's just as newsworthy as when a douchebag closeted Republican hater is caught.
9
@ 6 - Maybe SLOG should start a slightly more benign version of YPW and call it "Closeted Priest Watch" since YPW seems more geared towards really, really sick evangelical Protestants doing TRULY fucked-up shit.
10
@ 6, 8 - I get that, OK? But the truth of THIS PARTICULAR EDITION of YPW is that what this guy did was small potatoes, and one's hatred of Catholicism should make one realize that, unlike the genuine sleazeballs immortalized in YPW, this guy is as much a victim of his faith as are the parishioners.

Besides, there are no "Pastors" in the Catholic Church, just priests. So maybe, "Youth Clergy Watch"? Nah, not the same ring to it.

I actually Googled around a bit, trying to find out if that rest stop was a known cruising spot. But no luck—and you have to register now to go on CruisingForSex.com, and I didn't wanna register. But, yeah, it sounds fishy.

Still, just as it's possible to rape a prostitute, it's possible to assault someone who went to a known cruising spot. Also, don't you think it would be odd for a cruiser to go to the police if he hadn't been assaulted? It's not like the 21-year-old got caught in the woods with the priest and then claimed that he had been assaulted, right?

@Dan Savage. Dan. I'm in agreement with some of the other commenters here when I say I think you dropped the ball on this one. No one was raped, no one was really assaulted. I've endured worse 'assault' at any number of perfectly ordinary bars on any given Friday night. It seems much more reasonable to surmise that this IS a known cruising area, and the priest made the mistake of thinking that the 'victim' is one of the guys he's probably cruised many times before.

Now what exactly is your point, Dan? Should all gay priests renounce the church due to a crisis of conscience? What if he 'likes' being a priest, feels like he is helping people, maybe isn't one of the 'bad' ones that molest children or make people ashamed of who they are? What if he's one of the guys who do outreach to get teenagers to practice safe sex, be responsible with drugs and alcohol? For all you know he's on a one fag mission to save the church from itself, and get the church to disavow its medieval practices and comply with the full measure of secular law.

Yes, yes, this is all hypothetical and probably far from the truth. But the point is, if any of these things were true, I'm betting you wouldn't have put his picture up here today. This guy seems pretty clearly not to be a predator - just another lonely fag who made some pretty bad choices in life.

"... a youth pastor at Blessed Sacrament ..."

blessed sacrament indeed!

Yep, major cruising spot - it's between my house and my office, and EVERYBODY, even straight people, know that you don't wander off into the woods unless that's what you're looking for. It's also immediately next to a Dunkin' Donuts, so the needing to go into the woods to pee excuse is super weak. It's also heavily patrolled by the cops. Sounds like a weird personal vendetta or something on the part of the guy who reported him.

I have to agree with Chris @ #4 - It's very likely the Priest isn't homophobic in his sermons so I don't see any hypocrisy on his part. Plus, it involves people of legal age, not a minor.

Yes Dan, let this one go...

The Park & Ride is for Canton Central Train Station, so why didn't the victim use the public restroom there? That isn't to say he wasn't accosted/assaulted by Fr. What-A-Waste here, and even if he went to the cruise-y spot actually looking for sex, but changed his mind or backed out, and Father couldn't take no for an answer, there is probably some legal standing for at least a trial. As with most YPW stories, there is more than meets the eyes going on here, it just doesn't have the normal colouring of preying on minors by an adult, entrusted to the care of said adult by their parents.

I'd be happy if the the hot Father touched me down there...

Please wait...
