We don't yet know what Patty Murray raised in the second quarter (which closed on June 30), but the haul that Dino Rossi's campaign just announced is nothing to scoff at.

The bad news for Rossi is that it's not enough to suggest he can ever catch up with Murray, whose campaign said she had $6.3 million on hand as of June 15.

The math just isn't on Rossi's side: Even if he were able to keep raising $1.4 million a month from now until the election, he still wouldn't hit the $6.3 million that Murray had in the bank last month.

Which is why we're going to see a lot more of this—outside groups coming in to Washington State and spending big money to help level the financial playing field for Rossi.
