It always amazes me that people get hit by trains as often as they do. I mean, really, how fucking stupid do you have to be to not realize that a train is coming?
I was actually on that train. (At least we had a great water view while we were stopped for that endless 3 hours.) The theory is that they were taking pictures of a northbound freight train. They were standing on the tracks and apparently didn't realize that the horn they were hearing was coming from the approaching southbound train not the freight train. The freight train saw them and radioed ahead, but the engineer of our train couldn't stop it in time, but we had slowed down quite a bit.
Just remember that there are engineers and conductors responsible for running these trains. This is no less traumatic for them than if a kid stepped in front of your car and died.
1. Her dad was a childhood friend of mine, and if he read some of these comments it would add to his pain terribly. Her mother, younger sister, and friends are all heartbroken. She was a wonderful young woman who made a simple mistake.
2. Some of these posts are clearly from stupid, unthinking people, and if someone knocks your brains out someday it would be much more worthy of a Darwin award, because it would be earned. Your pathetic attempt to make a snarky, witty comment at the expense of a family in tragedy shows that you are barely worth the oxygen you use.
3. There are two tracks here at this curve. If you stand on one taking a picture of a northbound train, a southbound train can sneak up behind you unless you turn around. Even the horn will sound like it is from the northbound train if the engine has passed you.
listen to all you jerks that have commented on how stupid she was for taking the picture on the train tracks, i knew her and she was not stupid, she made a bad decision and know she has to pay for it. A whole community is mourning the loss. so rather than being assholes and saying these horrible things ( that may be true, but dont need to be said) about someone who has passed, you should pray for the family. would you want these things said about you after you passed?

Seems like some folks are registering just so they can post that the woman who was killed was not stupid. I understand how the accident happened, and yes this is really tragic....but part of what makes this tragic is the fact that it was also a really stupid way to get killed. Here is another stupid way to get killed....run at a Sheriff while wielding a garden rake. http://www.willitsnews.com/eureka/ci_157…
The train tracks around Titlow Beach follow the coastline, curving and ducking behind hills. There are two tracks, going in each direction. You have to cross these tracks to get to the waterfront. Train whistles echo off the hills and evaluating the origin of the whistle is very difficult. Every year people (plural) are killed here. Ergo: Shut the fuck up.
@Renton Mike: It's a good thing for you that proper grammar and spelling rarely play a significant role in Social Darwinism, otherwise you would be in serious trouble.
This was such a sad thing that happened, people talk about how bad the press is, the people like Renton Mike, who have no friends and just like to post so he can get some attention, please people dont feed into this, the sad thing is a young person was doing what young people do, out with her boyfriend made a bad decision, like we all have, and the sad thing is her and her whole family have to pay for it. its a sad thing, prayers and love would be best to deal with what they are going threw, not dump comments, that dont help anyone.
But the question has to be asked; how fucking stupid are people when it comes to dealing with trains? Seriously?!?
