It shook my house here in Columbia City.

I heard two booms in succession, then two more. Is that the way sonic booms sound? Distinct booms like that?

the military is protecting Obama while in town, just in case enemy fighters try to attack

@2 that's how i heard it too, but apparently there were only two aircraft. not sure why'd we'd get 4 booms. we need a physicist up in here.

fun fact: the cracking sound a whip makes is actually a mini sonic boom!

I live in Centralia, Wa. I was sitting outside and it shook the ground. I do believe it was a sonic boom. How else could it have been heard for 100s of miles?

People heard two loud booms sounds through the Seattle area and as far south as Lacey about 1:50 p.m.

A spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration said two fighter jets were scrambled to respond to a violation of flight restrictions put in place during President Obama's visit.

Described as a "real world mission," a spokeswoman for 142nd Fighter Wing of the Air National Guard in Portland said the jets were launched at 1:38 p.m. Tuesday while Obama was in Seattle.

Additional details were not immediately available.

Fucking intense....now do it again! :D

@10-- It's precisely BECAUSE the president's in town, apparently.
15
You get double booms from the nose and the tail of the aircraft.

Afterburners are fun.

Especially in protecting America from those who hate our President, our Middle Class, and our sense of fair play.

f-15s flew prtland oregon to boeing field, 180 miles, depending the version of f-15, mach 2.2 to 2.5, a 5 minute flight to cross most of the state, puts driving to shame doesnt it?

why does the military get all the fun toys! then again with the way people drive ;p
19
I don't think I've heard a decent sonic boom since the 60's, when the military was prone to tear-assing around the country at high speeds all the time.
