Not sure if this was already on Slog, but a couple days ago the Associated Press released a poll on, among several issues, gay benefits and gay marriage. A majority of the people surveyed want gay marriage and nearly 60 percent say gay couples deserve all the same benefits as married couples (.pdf). Also interesting: support is rising, pretty quickly:

The trend isn't just in this AP poll. CNN released results of a national survey last month that found 49 percent of Americans thought that same-sex marriage was a Constitutional right. That was up from 45 percent the previous year (.pdf). True, anything could happen in the future—the trend could reverse—but it probably won't. Gay people aren't going to, say, stop coming out of the closet. The federal marriage case over Prop 8 isn't going away. And the media doesn't look ready to start shunning the gays. The opposite is happening. Meanwhile, old, homophobic America—where the majority of opposition lies—is dying off.
