@3 the nattering nabobs of negativity in the rest of the state won't let big cities regulate overserving in bars or any drunks on the street issues, so the city had to use something they did have control over - noise pollution.
Fight the fuckers. The people that live on that end of the Ave are horrible. The pub style bar further down the road fills the area with mean, violent, raping, vandalizing thugs every weekend.
Maybe you aren't from Seattle? You should know that the average white Seattle resident will lie to anyone to prove their point. They will also maintain a "good guy" shell when talking to your face so it seems less likely that they are lying scum.
Also, punching people in the face works way more than you think it might.
Well, I'm glad we get to hear their side of the story. I left a comment on the original article detailing my experience the night of the soft opening, and I stand by what I said 100%. I was worried that they were going to be another Earl's or Finn's or Irish Emigrant (thank god that place is gone). But that was only one night, and it hasn't happened since. It's clear that the owners have been responsive to the feeback and want to be good neighbors, which is great. I have since moved out of the U-District, but I am totally down to give Royal a second chance the next time I'm thirsty and in the area.
@9: You're probably thinking about some nights at the Irish Emigrant. That place is now called the Rat & Raven and is under different ownership. It doesn't hold the crazy nights like the Emigrant did. (And, for the record, the people who did cause problems at the Emigrant did not live in that area of the Ave.)
Their "noise insulation" consists of 3 pots with stringy young bamboo plants in them, it does about as good a job of blocking the sound as a wet noodle would make a bunjee cord. It's currently 10:57 pm on a Monday night & I am out of bed venting here because their phone number is not listed ANYWHERE & I am not about to get dressed & stumble over there just to tell them to make their patrons stop screaming on the back patio. I realize this is the U-District, but they moved in next to a tonne of renters who have been here a long time & miss the days when they could actually get some SLEEP on school nights. The noise is not the only problem, there are fights & all the other things that come along with a bar that does not bother to control or monitor their drunk-as-fuck patrons. They don't tie their garbage & let it overflow from the outside dumpsters, blowing all over the alleyway & neighbouring yards. I can't wait for the day they get shut down.
What the fuck is the point of the noise ordinance then?

What are you on about? Once you get north of 50th, the neighborhood almost immediately quiets down and becomes more residential.
I used to work next to the Dreaming, Weekends were nightmares.
