I don't usually comment just to say WTF, but SERIOUSLY, WHAT THE FUCK??????????????????
2
This is the expected result of a virtual state religion that sees every possible conceptus within its borders as a vessel for a soul, like the Laverne and Shirley bottling line.
3
The majority of all pregnancies spontaneously miscarry within the first three months, which is why people traditionally don't announce they are pregnant until month 4. Many times the women don't even know they're pregnant yet.

This law would thus attach criminal liability to almost all pregnancies.
4
Stupid fucks. There's no way in hell this will survive a constitutional challenge, but they'll go ahead and waste taxpayer money on it anyway.

@4- FTW
6
The Taliban would be proud.
7
The Christianist version of Shari'a law. Fuck these shitheads.

Are they going to go around examining every woman's menses every month for expelled fertilized ova? Put women of breeding age in protective custody? I mean, where does this insane nonsense end?
8
This is the kind of stuff that gets my teeth grating.
9
So when's the complimentary air-lift to get all the women out of Utah? Cause this shit is ridiculous. I'd fund an air-lift myself if I could.

Cept all the crazy mormon women are probably jumping for joy.
10
@9 "Cept all the crazy mormon women are probably jumping for joy."

I should hope not! That'd be reckless!

Utah has the second dumbest governor (AZ has the first dumbest). Neither can debate nor understand the real issues, neither can make their own decisions, and neither is a college graduate. Herbert "attended" BYU, but never graduated, Jan Brewer went to radiology school. I'm sure its no coincidence that some of the dumbest legislation comes out of - and is approved by - these Republican governors and their party.
Perhaps Herbert ought to pay some attention to his own fucking family (like his stalker son) rather than criminalizing what goes on in other people's families.

It seems Cienna Cuntface knows almost as much about the Utah law as she did about the Arizona law....

ob-gyn here: It's really tough to determine the EXACT cause of a miscarriage (something patients anxiously want to know, most of the time). As much as 50% of human miscarriages before 12th week are due to genetic defects in the union of ova and sperm and will be aborted no matter what you do. Other frequent causes are infection and autoinmune disease. It would be legally hard to prove that the pregnancy would have continued without that accident.
With miscarriages due to violent domestic attacks that would be another way of putting the blame on the victim
14
Those who start by thinking that acorns are as important as oaks will end by deciding that oaks are as insignificant as acorns.
15
13: Presumably that 50% is higher in places like Utah, with such "interesting" breeding practices in its past?
16
If you're going to outlaw abortion, it only makes sense to outlaw miscarriages as well, so that women cannot disguise their abortions as such. If you're going to outlaw miscarriages, you'll need some pretty extravagant and oppressive legislation, which is what you're seeing now. This is why abortion is a woman's rights issue and not an issue of morality; to truly enforce a ban on abortion you have to treat women as property of the state.
17
This is absolutely fucked up. And the OBGYN's comment shows why. Nobody in this legislature knows the first thing about women's bodies, and yet all of them still feel completely entitled to control them.
18
This bill was already signed into law sans the word "reckless":

That Daily Kos article is from February.

@16: yup, and I've been expecting this for a long time. Part of me wants them to sign it into law and have it struck down by the courts in a few years just so the country has to face why abortion is a women's rights issue. This is one place the whole 'slippery slope' argument (of legal abortions leading to state monitoring of women between the ages of 11 and 55) looks like it could pan out
21
er, I meant "illegal abortions" above.
22
this is the dumbest thing i have ever read in my whole life what about the women who at first were not in abusive relationships and their boyfriend or husband find out they are pregnant and dont want the baby and beat the crap out of them what about that they dont think about that and y just because a doctor kills the baby does it make it legal it shouldnt thats whats murder if u ask me they should both fry for abortion unless there is something really wrong that means both mother and child will die with out it so if they r going to make anything illegal it should be abortion not miscarrage
23
This is completely ridiculous. Miscarriages happen all the time, even if you take perfect care of yourself. There is no way in hell they could charge a woman for homicide for losing her baby. It's tough enough having a miscarriage you don't need to add criminal charges on top of that.
24
Some one is going to make some money.
25
There is most certainly an American Taliban, and they hate women just as much as the other Taliban do.

Please wait...
