All because you wouldn't tap Kate's ass is no reason to be bitter Charles.
2
She doesn't even work! Doesn't she get bored? Even if I were fucking a prince I'd want to do something will all my free time.
3
How quaint. Class discrimination is so hip!
4
Her parents stabbed her class in the back, by making lots of money and sending their kids off to places they could meet royalty.
5
@ 1 - I think it's that he's bitter because he couldn't, not wouldn't, tap same aforementioned ass.
6
Yeah, but she's really hot, so I'm going to let it slide.
7
Abby's right. As is Hernandez.
8
Charles, you were born way up the ladder of privilege if my memory serves me correctly. You upper crust people should leave the working class alone.
9
I guess the possibility or even remote potential of two people loving each other is irrelevant to your bullshit-ridden long distance media view of their lives, eh? Jesus Christ. By your notion every single poor person that ever marries rich may as well be a class traitor, irregardless of any notions of "love" of any sort. Total, complete, and utter delusional bullshit.
10
William should have married Princess Madeleine of Sweden, who is really just about the only eligible and suitable princess left unmarried in Europe since he can't marry a Roman Catholic. They could have had three or four beautiful children and then gone their separate ways, William to dally with Kate on the weekends the way Charles did with Camilla, and Madeleine to dally with her current light o' love. That's how the upper-upper-upper class really does it.
11
@9, love is not possible in such a relationship. there is only power. naked power!
12
This is by no means the dumbest thing Mudede's ever written - that would take some real effort - but it's pretty fucking stupid.
13
I was thinking some of the same things for different reasons. Diana was emotional, she was passionate. She felt life intensely because she experienced ups and downs growing up. Charles, to put it bluntly, is a cold fish. He experienced no downs. He was protected from downs, experience.
It was the downfall of their relationship. I fear William and Kate are the younger version. However, William did experience his parents divorce and his mother's death. So maybe there's hope. And afterall, Charles, they deserve a chance at love. A kind of symbolic reunion of everyman and his royal heritage.
14
Her mother was an air hostess. Her parents are self made millionaires who run a party supply business. She hasn't been middle or working class for the better part of her life.
15
@8 According to Wikipedia, "his father, Ebenezer Mudede, served as an economic advisor to Robert Mugabe". That's the same Mugabe that compared himself to Hitler, oppresses speech in his nation, steals from his people, etc. The article says their family was close with the Prime Minister and grew up in wealthy neighborhoods. I don't know Charles beyond his writings here, but for him to lecture about Kate Middleton of all people as a class traitor for marrying a prince is laughable.

Or is this all just general anti-English/anti-colonialism for the old days?
16
If you actually care about how progressive our tax system is, it doesn't matter how *much* of the cuts went to the top 1% but what the changes to the tax revenue did to the progressiveness of the tax system.

In other words, if the top 1% pay a large enough portion of our taxes, a cut might give them back a larger total share but only because they're already paying a larger share.

"Consequently, from 2000 to 2004, the share of all individual income taxes paid by the bottom 40 percent dropped from zero percent to –4 percent, meaning that the average family in those quintiles received a subsidy from the IRS. By contrast, the share paid by the top quintile of households (by income) increased from 81 percent to 85 percent.

Expanding the data to include all federal taxes, the share paid by the top quintile edged up from 66.6 percent in 2000 to 67.1 percent in 2004, while the bottom 40 percent's share dipped from 5.9 percent to 5.4 percent. Clearly, the tax cuts have led to the rich shouldering more of the income tax burden and the poor shouldering less."

So, on what basis could you say the Bush tax cuts weren't fundamentally progressive?
17
"Air hostess"!!! I love you, Charles.
18
@9 oh give it a rest. You have no idea what you're talking about. You and I are from totally different backgrounds beyond we're from different nations (Romania here); I grew up poor, you grew up in exclusive circles. I never got to finish a proper secondary education while you're very educated, but you sometimes have the common sense and realism in your writings of a bag of lopsided bricks. Your cynicism is absurd, and that's coming from someone who at times is a pretty dour cynic.
19
I should say that I meant to include at my post at 18 that if I can see the potential that two people might just plain love each other, despite my own colossally fucked up home upbringing--one of those divorces of Legend that took from basically my birth to age 18 to shake out, when I finally just left--then there's no reason anyone else could possibly have to be so utterly sociopathic in their cynicism.
20
@10,

Why should she do that? Swedish royalty can marry whomever they damn well please.
21
Some people might have fallen in love with Diana, but to me she was never more than a silly whore, a cow built for breeding.
22
By the way, well done on getting a rise out of me. I owe you a congratulatory drink someday for so quickly getting my blood boiling with only a few words!
23
What most people never report on is how the top 0.1 percent treat the next 1.9 percent tier like trash.

Half the income goes to the 0.1 guys. They just avoid taxation on it.
24
I applaud the decision to marry outside the bloodline. It was high time.
25
Colin Firth's new Stuttering King George picture is coming out soon. Oscar-smellers are smelling Oscar over it.
26
Kate stabbed her class in the back? Her parents are millionaires. Aside from a lack of official title and generations of inbreeding, there's not much difference daylight between the two. Her parents may be self-made millionaires, but Kate Middleton isn't.

Once again, I am happy to see my sanity confirmed by the fact that I find Charles Mudede's opinion hogwash.
27
this is the first time I've ever felt the need to say "STFU" to you Charles. You don't know shit.

28
Fnarf @21... are you hammered today or combining your medication with alcohol or something?

Your comments are getting more and more ridiculous
29
@26, http://www.partypieces.co.uk/pages/cm/cm…

believe me, they are not the same class. even when my mother ran a successful business, I was not stupid enough to call her money actual wealth.
30
They need to marry outside the bloodline. They need new blood(genes), literally.
31
Charles, I bet you're going to be a really interesting guy when you grow up.
32
They LIve!

Hooray! The recession is over!

It has to be right? YAY!

I mean... if somebody actually paid Charles Mudede to write this... it means there is simply money to wipe our asses with out there?

What? No?

Waaaait... this Mudede some sort of new Markov software application; Programed to insert sophomore level Hegelian and Marxist buzz words randomly into stories pulled off of TMZ's RSS feeds?

I honestly can't tell what's real anymore.

35
Charles, you are seriously old school. As in 19th century.
36
"means people in the poor and middle parts of society will identify with those who are at the very top of it, those who in fact oppress them." If you believe that it is the people "at the very top of it" and not a systematic problem then you will always be a victim and not an observer. Look back beyond just 40 years…There will be poor always.
38
Charles, the first rule of good writing is to be honest. Almost everything you write, the phoniness is so thick you can cut it with a knife... give up the pretension. Give up the unnatural lens that acts to distort rather than clarify, and be natural and real. Do that and you might actually write something worth reading.
39
@28, what's ridiculous about my comment? Are you seriously suggesting that you find it hard to believe there are people who haven't fallen for the Diana fakery? Don't you think it's odd that Harry doesn't look anything like Chuck? Her charity work was fake, her marriage was fake, her hysterical aversion to being "hounded" by the press was especially fake (she used to jump unbidden into reporters' cars to complain about it). Fake, fake, fake. A narcissisistic creep. Her only function in life was popping out heirs.

40
Look at that fucking ring, though. LOOK AT IT.
41
The Royal Family doesn't set tax policy, Parliament does. And the House of Commons is elected from the riff-raff.
42
Slow news day, eh Charles? But then, it's been awhile since you justified all our criticisms of your incoherent Marxist proselytizing.
43
Fuck the haters, Charles is right on with this one. You fucking clowns shit on everything this dude writes, even when he's got a good point.
44
@43 - um, Charles is "the haters".
45
You tell 'em, Charles! You should never do anything to improve the lives of your family members, particularly when it involves economic advancement, because that amounts to betrayal of the demographic that fate put you in at birth. If you're working class, stay working class! If you're from a poor country, stay in that poor country! Oh, WAIT.
46
"work and constant worry"!

i'm with #43. charles is correct. i loved this post.
47
I'd love to join in on the Mudede-hate, but honestly, if this is really the lens through which he views the world then I feel sorry for him. It must truly suck to be that hopeless and cynical.

On another note, I think the very idea of calling someone a "class traitor" represents so much of what is wrong in our society.

How is he "correct?"

Look for last decade the Stranger has dedicated a significant portion of editorial space "correctly" arguing that people should be allowed to marry whomever they choose as it is a fundamental right and that nobody has a right to interfere. No state. No political body. No individual.

And here Charles goes and argues that this marriage is some sort of "class" crime? Telling them who they SHOULD marry.

I'm just as left as the next spaghetti-monster fearing Seattleite but I think it's not only cynical to draw an unfounded assumption that this marriage is some sort of aristocratic PR stunt.

It's entirely likely these kids are in love with each other. And even if they aren't nobody should fucking care. For fuck sake haven't we been trying to depoliticize marriage for last decade!?! It doen't matter one whit that these people represent an oppressor class or not.

If the complaint that these royal marriages are bread and circuses well then lodge that complaint with the god damned mouth breathing proletariat who buy the collectibles and tabloids and who allow them selves to get distracted by the spectacle.

But it's pretty stupid to infer that a couple of kids getting married
should stick to their class. For fuck sake class boundaries are another thing we should be trying to break.

Anyway. Basically this story is another in the long line of Mudede Markov articles that he spits out without a second of thinking about it. And it's getting boring. He has done better. Just too infrequently.

50
sorry about the double.
51
I gotta agree that Charles is way off the mark here. Fuck you, Charles, let those kids marry each other if they want. Kate Middleton is no class traitor, she comes from a wealthy background, and who gives a shit anyway?

And Fnarf, fuck you too. Diana did a lot of good stuff, like fighting the use of land mines, and openly touching and being caring to a lot of the early HIV victims at time when people were afraid to even touch them. Don't talk smack about her, she was a decent person, and she got, pardon the expression, royally screwed.
52
Charles, this faux-letariat thing is just plain pathetic. Aliens? Abductors? Unreal? You fucking wish. What's next? Torches and pitchforks? Please, go eat some cake.
53
I don't think that the marriages by princes change the fate of a nation if the economical condition of country is going down, sincere policies lift up the economy.
54
21 nailed it. only this girl looks anemic. yuk. @5 maybe charles wouldnt tap that. i wouldn't touch the skinny hoe. if only laura bush wasnt so.. chaste. w buggers that one though. laura is such a sweety.

Please wait...
