Ahem. Ice is far more dangerous than snow. Those roads, that first one in particular, look deadly. In many cases, the plowed streets are slipperier than the unplowed ones.

People asking for Michigan levels of snow response here are simply crazy.
2
You think reporters write the editorials at daily newspapers? Oh, intern, you make me fondly remember what an ignoramus I was at your age too.
3
I think the snow had a huge hand in it, but you can't ignore the fact that he was totally ignored in the primary, with many voters just assuming they'd be picking who would run against the incumbent.
4
The person you cited does not work in the newsroom. Why does everyone think that every single employee of the Seattle Times is a reporter?
5
#4 They also think the editorials are the whole paper and have something to do with the news coverage.

My humble opinion as a south resident is this. This response was a hell of a lot better than 2 years ago. Main roads in the south end were ( are) completely cleaned. Even Orcas west of MLK and Graham st. Beacon Avenue is cleared all the way south, Othelo is cleaned. Henderson is cleaned. I gotta say, 2 years ago, i was fuming because it seemed there was no work on south ennd's mayor streets. When I went north last year, I was amazed how much work they had done on the streets. This year it was noticably different. all roads are cleared. 7 and 8 were running smooth, no buses stuck. Now if people werent so lazy and shoveled their snow just like we do in Philly :) than it would be even better and you could walk all over. Im sure there were problems but I think the city of Seattle did a better job this year in the south end. Less snow but a hell of a lot of ice and if they had not cleaned the main streets there would have been massive amounts of accidents.

"Maureen Jude" is spelled incorrectly. And she's not a reporter; she works in advertising.

And editorials like the one you cited are written by the editorial department, not reporters.

And your post was sophomoric.

There's a reason you're unpaid, Mr. or Ms. anonymous Unpaid Intern.

Welcome Mariana Trujillo?

Yaya con Dios Matt Luby? (I expect we'll see you next as James O’Keefe's sidekick, or getting coffee for Bill O'Reilly...)
9
Wait, the Times wants us to cut the budget and then they want us to spend money we don't have?

What's up with that?

There's no magic funding fairy out there, last I checked.
10
@6: There's also infinitely less snow than 2008, although it seems like it's much colder.

Re: "the city’s roads weren’t terrible, but the freeways were sucky"

Is the city responsible for plowing I-5, or is WSDOT?
12
"The city's roads weren't terrible."

Yeah, and I'm the emperor of Neptune, newly arrived on Earth to study snow removal solutions for my ice-bound planet.
13
@11: WSDOT is responsible for I-5 and I-90, as well as 520. The last page of this PDF breaks it down - black lines are city maintained, everything else is WSDOT.

@ Fox in Socks -- You're not rid of me yet! I was just out reporting on National Opt-Out Day today. And the fact that you think I like people like Bill O'Reilly just makes me think you are intellectually lazy. Try harder.
15
I don't take your "philosophy" seriously, Matt. I'm not going to make an effort to play footsie with your joke beliefs. Your beliefs are a joke. Duh.

What I take seriously is that the net effect of what you do and say is to enhance the power and security of the rich and the corporations. You carry water for the establishment and pretend you stand for something. You encourage young people to not vote and the GOP thanks you for your fine voter suppression. You're a Republican tool. You work to win contracts more favorable to employers. The corporations thank you. Tool.

In a couple years you'll dispense with all the ideological window dressing and get a job for Roger Ailes, doing phony "news" at least refilling Papa Bear O'Reilly's cup.
16
Trolls. Put on you "tongue-in-cheekness" detectors. And I do know how newspapers work. Geez.
17
@ Fox -- I always thought people who installed Greasemonkey scripts to block out content from certain people were just being silly, but the more I read your comments, the more I think about learning Greasemonkey.

When was the last time you read anything except for a cable news ticker? You are so wedded to this ridiculously simplistic left-right paradigm. I get it, you hate Bill O'Reilly. Do you really think there's that much of a difference between O'Reilly Olbermann? They're both just provocateurs who support the state's assault on your life in different ways.

I also would love to see you "debate" people on a neutral board. It's not my beliefs that are a joke, it's your debating "skills." You can't even make a substantive critique beyond some imagined affinity I have for Republicans and lazy namecalling. You only get away with this weak shit here because most commenters agree with you more than me and are too embarrassed to call you out for it.

Well said. I think Olbermann is more honest but both networks serve to polarize and not create any sort of meaningful discourse.

So, to summarize:

Eyman fucked Seattle by making bad cuts at WSDOT even worse on the highways, no matter how much we cleared OUR arterial roads.

Matt, you're in no more position to sit above the partisan divide and look down on the left and the right than you're a Canadian. You're not above anything, and you're not fucking Canadian. You're a run of the mill American arrogant twat. You're looking out for number one, currying favor with those in power, and hiding it with a fake ideology and a fake persona. And fake Canadian idiom.

Obviously if you're going to be a tool of the right wing, the wealthy and the corporations, it helps to pretend that no such distinction exists between them and the progressive left. When you say "They're both just provocateurs who support the state's assault on your life in different ways," I hear "Fair and Balanced." It's just another sham to hide what you're really doing.

And this isn't a debate. This is me ridiculing you. If you can't take it, run and hide.

Please wait...
