On this day I am thankful that I don't find such hate and idiocy in my inbox. Enjoy your food orgy.
2
They only get more pissed when your right :-)
3
Even though we should all be fighting against bullying and suicides of all types of children...whoever the hell this nut was that wrote the letter sure as hell ain't helping anybody's anti-bullying case. (Strange that he/she was so upset about those poor girls killing themselves, yet when talking about gay teens, suddenly bullying isn't all that bad.) Curious.

And what the fuck is he/she doing sending a rant like that on Thanksgiving? No friends or family to celebrate with? It's okay, anonymous, we love you and understand that being closeted in such a cruel world can make you bitter. Now go out into the world and hate the gay no more!!! Praise!
4
I couldn't even read the whole hateful disgusting thing.

Dan, it's too bad you have to ingest such poison on Thanksgiving ... or any day.
5
What's his email? I want to sign him up at silverdaddies.com
6
U MAD?
7
Hey Dan, I'm sorry that you get such venomous, hateful bile in response to the truly good things that you do. The rest of us here know that between you and the trolls, you're the one who's actually making the world a better place to live in. I hope that you, Terry, DJ, and the rest of your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
8
Why should you keep his email address private? I would print it, just like you print the email addresses of all of those principals and school board members wh spread hate. This animal doesn't deserve the presumption of anonymity. That's only for the people who are writing to you to ask for help.
9
Evolutionary dead end!?! You can't make this shit up! They learn their Sunday school lessons well! LOL
10
You know, Dan, I've never read anything you've written that really made me mad until today...sweet Mary's afterbirth, you don't go to the gym on Thanksgiving, you sit your narrow Irish bum down on the sofa like everyone else and eat 1,200 calories worth of mixed nuts while you wait for dinner to come out of the oven. Geez.
11
Dan, this is sick. The gym? On Thanksgiving? What's WRONG with you!
12
Research definitely finds that people who are really angry have shorter life expectancies.

Also, research suggests that people who are afraid of change and afraid of new things also have shorter life expectancies.

Sounds like evolutionary dead ends to me.
13
Since when did these so-called "Christians" start giving a flying fuck about evolution, "dead end" or otherwise?

That being said, to everyone else: HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
14
If I believed that the level of bile represented in anonymous internet forums accurately reflected anything but the worst, most childish impulses of the angry, demented few I'd be contemplating suicide myself.

I like the "evolutionary dead end" angle, though. You know another one? Celibacy. Total dead end. That means every single Catholic priest and nun for all time has been chasing down an evolutionary blind alley. And Jesus? Another dead-ender.
15
Dan,

Justice, seeking to end the source of victimization of many, seeking to change how the system works is offensive. This e-mail is evidence of your success. And, that is a good thing. So what to do with such vile words? Breathe them and allow them to become purified through your heart and then breathe out all the passion and compassion you have for IGBP and hurting children.

And, fuel your workout with it. Then enjoy your family and the holiday. A couple of snorts of whisky and some liquor laced dessert couldn't hurt.

Many of us will be giving thanks for you and your's today.

Virtual hug deeply sent.

Cheers! *clinks glass*
16
They must not have been loved by their mother or father as a child. I hope they get help soon.

Have a great day everyone!
17
Well, it looks like (christian) straight people can also reach an evolutionary dead end. This one's ancestors stopped evolving a few hundred centuries ago, I'd say.
18
Hey, did you get his IP address? :) That can be VERRRY useful. (Just ask the tech-savvy at risk youth.)

Happy Thanksgiving, Dan. Fuck the haters. XOXO
20
I would call this guy a ChINO - Christian In Name Only.
21
Allow me to add to the chorus of "The gym? On Thanksgiving? BLASPHEMY!"

Of course, I'm working remotely from the comfort of my parents' house and looking to bill about six hours today. On Thanksgiving. So, uh, maybe I'm not one to talk.
22
They're just pissed because they're losing and they don't like it. I think the States has more to fear from right wing christians potentially becoming terrorists than anyone else...

Dan, seems like you're getting wound up about right wing wing nuts. Haters gon' hate. Time to come on up and visit Canada and get a dose of sane(r) society for a bit. Come to Ottawa and we'll get sloshed and go sing karaoke with my Muslim, Jewish, Athiest, Gay, Straight, Black, White and Asian friends.
23
The letter writer never claimed to be a Christian. He just accused Dan of exploiting gay suicides in Dan's goal of demonizing Christians and conservatives to the mushy middle.

At least all of the words were spelled correctly.

Happy Thanksgiving!
24
I hardly ever read these messages because as a leftist Christian it irritates me to no end to be lumped in with a mode of thought that would promote hate like that.

Anyway, I wanted to thank you for bringing out the conservative distinction.
25
Hell with it. I'm off to read the Comics Curmudgeon instead - it's a nice day here and I don't want to get hate all over my nice clean computer.
26
Sorry Danny-
the study you link addresses homosexual 'behavior'; not 'homosexuality'.

And, second sorry-
But science—science!— does NOT tell us that homosexuality is not an evolutionary dead end. Perhaps Golob can explain it to you.

Lots and lots of really really destructive genetic tendencies and traits don't get bred out of existence.
The fact that something remains in the gene pool doesn't make it OK or healthy or 'normal'.....
27
@10: Stop! You're killing me!
28
How is this email any more hateful or disgusting than Dan's typical post on Slog?

>spoiler alert<

It is not.

Do we hold an anonymous email from someone who claims to be christian to the same standard as a prominent national spokesmodel for all of faggotdom?

And do we really condemn everyone in a religion of billions based on an anonymous email from someone who claims to be christian ?

>spoiler alert<

If we are homoliberal hater bigots, you bet your fat ass we do......
29
Is Gold's Gym really open today or was that a joke? And who goes to the gym on Thanksgiving?
30
@28 -
I'm so sorry someone blew up your fucking bridge...

However - speaking as one of the minority who have been opressed through the ages by your "religion of billions" (and who incidentally happens to be a student of history) ... if you're wanting to start talking condemnation, where do you want to start?

The Inquisition?
Exploitation of the New World?
Northern Ireland?
Africa and the slave trade?

All of these were done in the name of God.

I think that does give us a little leeway in calling out you asswipe hypocrites.
31
This person is not a Christian. He is a cretin.
32
Such a lovely christian (little "c") mouth that asshole has him/her.

I'll just bet Christ is beaming with pride of making that one.
33
30

three of the four occurred hundreds of years ago-
(and Africans get an assist for slavery for procuring the product...)
and the fourth was in another country.
you'll need all of that leeway and then some if you're going to blame American Christians.

but by your rules of the game we guess it's fair to blame homosexuals for the extinction of the dinosaurs....
34
Waiiiiiiit a minute.

I thought it was the Christinists - the petition signers, the bigots and moralists - the (supposedly good) people that work to place anti-gay measures on ballots all over the country that are the victims of hate mail and threats and aggression.

I thought they needed to be protected from LGBTs that are being violent and seeking to steal their freedoms from them - even as the Christian zealots organize and conspire to hide their identities and work to pass anti-gay laws and threaten judges that defend gays and elevate supremacist politicians to do their bidding.

I thought they were the innocent unwitting victims.

I guess they are liars as well as thugs and cowards and bigots and "christians."
35
Conservative Christianity is the human centipede of social philosophies
36
@33
To quote George Santayana: "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it".

I don't *only* blame American Christians. Although one must admit that the vast majority of the issues Dan has cited in the past are American in origin.

For example, the charlatan Fred Phelps, to name one.

Personally, I blame any organized religion that maintains and encourages hatred and violence against others while professing "love".
And that does include Orthodox Judaism, in addition to Islam and others.

So frankly, dig your head out of your ass, wipe the shit out of your eyes and do a little research before you try to combat historical fact with the misguided ramblings of whichever demagogue is currently pontificating from your local pulpit.

PS - Since you apparently believe anything anyone tells you, we did destroy the dinosaurs.
Do you have any idea how many shoes, belts and purses you can get from one dinosaur?
Ask Fred Flintstone. He was there.

37
36

now now now mr history student
you are confusing your bigotry with historical facts-
actually hysterical 'facts'........
you seem to have a chip on your shoulder against a big chunk of the world-
if you study enough history you can find a reason to hate everyone.
good luck with that.
38
I think we all know at this point, the only criterion for being a good Christian is to have vehement hatred for all people who are homosexual.
39
"gee, what should I do with this person's email address?"

Send it to 4chan and let them get to work.
40
Quite certainly the letter writer and the troll are self-loathing gays.
41
Damn, the people on this thread (and of course the post's author) are my favorite type of people. I'm thankfully for knowing all ya'll are out there. Happy Thanksgiving Sloggers!
42
Honest to God boys and girls... can't WE, at least, be the grander person here and lighten it up a bit?????!!!!
Let's just turn the other cheek today and love each other-anyway.
43
*Mwah*, blissboy...(that's a kiss)...happy turkey, happy gravy, happy pie!
44
I dunno. I call bullshit on this email. A little over-the-top and readable for it to be written by a wingnut. Anyone else get that vibe?
45
@44 No to the over-the-top, yes to the legibility.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
46
Ok, so I know I should've used the word "thankful" but i'm drunk as fuck. Frogive?
47
@ Slog,
I love you all! You've given me many moments of sweet in a very, very bittersweet year. I'm thankful to have this year winding to its end, but grateful to know we're all going forward together into the next. Happy Thanksgiving, Sloggers! xo

@ Outercow,
Always forgiven (and frogiven) never doubt that. Tis good to have you in the "family".
48
@39 Not your personal army. That's the generic response of someone who has never actually been on 4chan. Most boards wouldn't care about this because they're busy engaging in interesting discussion. The rest of the boards just wouldn't care.
49
@37
"you are confusing your bigotry with historical facts-
actually hysterical 'facts'........"

Oh that's honestly got to be the funniest thing I've read all day.
But seriously, if you're considering a career as a comedy writer, don't give up the day job.

However I'm honestly dying to hear which events I cited (and there were four only in the interest of brevity) were "hysterical facts" ?

And out of curiousity, do you also cite the Holocaust as a "hysterical fact" ?

50
That's no Christian Dan!!! That's just some disgusting, sad individual who doesn't get laid.
51
I agree w/ the folks pointing out this is one of the most well written bigoted scribes I've ever had the, um, pleasure(?) of reading.

I also always wonder if calling attention to such people/attitudes is really even in our best interest. I'm not necessarily saying that if we ignore them they'll "go away" (though I do think they're staring down the evolutionary dead-end far more than anyone else) just that they're probably attention starved idiots and really probably just looking to get a rise out of non-bigots. Calling attention to them would seemingly play right into whatever bolt brained, ignorance fueled fantasies they may entertain.

Eh, whatever. Happy thanksgiving & all that crap.
52
Oh Dan, happy thanksgiving, hope you are having a great time. Thank you for quoting Matthew, but there is another quote which is my favourite , it is taken from the old testament GN1 27 ( from the Jerusalem bible , i am quoting in french )
Dieu crea l'homme a son image
a l'image de Dieu il le crea
homme et femme , il les crea
For the non french speaking a loose translation
God created man to his image
to his image He created him
man and woman He created them
53
@33, 37,

how about northern ireland? christian vs. christian.

simple fact is, if you think christianity is somehow better than all the rest, above the violence now that it's older/wiser/more established... "holier than thou"... you're just wrong. all religions hate all other religions. some are better at hiding it, but when it comes down to reality, they hate other religions to the point of desiring to see those followers dead.

religion is a product of human beings, the most destructive and violent species on this planet. it's not a product of some loving, gentle, nonexistent deity.

and if you violently annihilate your opponent a thousand years ago, that doesn't mean that since it happened so long ago it doesn't matter anymore.
54
I was going to chastise you for giving this troll/asshole attention because I resented being faced with this bigotry on Thanksgiving. Then it occurred to me that that's a pretty fucking privileged framework considering most gay/trans/whatever kids and adults don't have the privilege to just choose not to be confronted with bigotry in every form of media they come into contact with.
55
The man raises a good point. We might very well be a dead end. I propose an experiment. How about you give us equal rights and stop all the homophobic, bible thumping bullshit.
Once even the most self hating closet case feels accepted enough to be himself, there should be a sharp drop in sham marriages and gay kids born from sham marriages. If you're right that should speed up our extinction like woah.*

*(ignoring of course the bi's and the lesbians and the gays with a surrogacy mother and those millions of other straight people who seems to be carrying our redundant gay gene, like my parents).
56
Happy Thanksgiving Dan, thank you for taking on these type of obnoxious haters day after day. The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice!
57
@12: Something is only an evolutionary dead end if it prevents or decreases reproduction. Angry and fearful are not selected against by evolution unless they decrease life expectancy before a person can reproduce. So, 18-40 or so. I feel sure that anger and fear are not killing people this young.

While entertaining, your point is invalid.
58
What makes you think this asshat is a Christian?
59
The letter writer is no Christian, and he doesn't even claim to be one. He's just an angry (and maybe drunk) guy taking out his hatred of Thanksgiving and general unhappiness with his life on a random internet personality.
60
The letter writer needs a spanking, and he needs to rub a few out, fantasizing about Dan and buttsex. Then he'll be all chill (I mean self-loathing) again....

'gay gene'.
interesting point.
what if there were a 'gay gene'.
what would be the point? (speaking evolutionarily and biologically)
Golob will tell you that evolutionary/reproductive biology is a ruthlessly efficient process.
Mother Nature doesn't waste good genetic material.
a 'gay gene' that conferred the innate state of being homosexual (were there such a condition) would render its owner unable to reproduce.

why would Mother Nature do that?
two possible reasons-
1 the 'gay gene' is a defect that randomly occurs. otherwise healthy individuals randomly and tragically deprived of reproductive ability. like someone being born without feet. or a dick.
or
2 the host individual has some terrible condition that would be terribly harmful to the species. to prevent the entire species being contaminated the individual is genetically biologically neutered.
there is no other reason evolutionarily otherwise whole sound members of the species would be rendered incapable of reproducing.
the 'baby sitting uncle' "theories" are laughable.
increased fertility in females with homosexuals? Mother Nature's way of making up for the defective wasted members of the family unit.

of course, there IS no biological innate condition of 'homosexuality'.
so called homosexuals are reproductively exactly like heterosexuals- capable of the full range of heterosexual behavior, able to father and bear children, biologically and anatomically identical to heterosexuals.
the only way to detect the 'homosexuality' is to take their word for it.
behavior is not a useful guide- the majority of so called homosexuals have and/or do engage in heterosexual behavior, marry, have children. and many heterosexuals engage in behavior that would be considered homosexual were there such a state of being.

what does that leave us with?
people.
human beings.
engaging in an array of sexual behaviors.
anybody and everybody doing whatever they want.
whatever they feel like doing.
whatever they choose to do.
Choices being made about Sexual Behavior.

why the obsession to label and categorize?
hetero homo bi trans blah blah blah.
why does Dan insist on strict limits and rules?
why does he become angry and abusive if someone engages in sexual behavior with their own and opposite genders?
why does he have strict definitions for what constitutes acceptable 'gay' behavior?
who gays can vote for and what they can believe and even who they can love.
can a gay school kid decide he is no longer gay and 'un-out' himself?
he can, but no one will believe him, according to Dan.
(at least suicide is painless....)

no.
no 'gay gene'.
just people. having sex.
why does Dan have a problem with that?

Danny doesn't really need a reason to launch one of his anti-christian hate filled screeds.
bigots never really need a reason for their hate.
and facts mean nothing to them.

Danny loves to quote the Bible and hate on christians.

it's amazing how similar Danny is to the Bible quoting homophobes he likes to imagine he is superior to.

actually they are two peas in the same bigoted pod of hate.
63
Regarding the Anti-Dan troll, who I have been reading since he first poked his hateful little self onto Slog, I read the posts # 61 & 62, and the only comment that I am able to make when reading such ignorant garbage is the following:

Sir or Madam, you are mercifully free from the ravages of intelligence.

And regarding evolution? Don't attempt to play with fire or concepts you fail to comprehend. Oh, wait, that pretty much shut you out of every argument, didn't it?

Too bad, so sad. Here, have a lovely parting gift.
64
63

hateful?

now now.

don't fear the truth.

and don't fall into Danny's trap of writing off all opinions and beliefs other than your own as HATE.

insults are not a very persuasive argument, however.

65
Normally I don't feed trolls, so I'm only going to say this once to the lone goofy troll on slog:

Gay marriage in this country is inevitable and will happen. Maybe not all at once or right away, but it is going to happen. DADT will be repealed and gays in America will be able to openly serve in the military, this is also inevitable.

You can kick and cry and bitch and try to get a rise out of everyone on a forum of people with differing views than you, but your insistence on posting anonymously is evidence of the onset of change because on some level you recognize your views as being silly and so you hide behind anonymity. The other possibility is that you are just a contrary troll who doesn't believe any of the nonsense he spouts and just enjoys giggling at the attention he gets. Or a combination of the two. At least that's my take on it.

This is going to be my only instance of addressing you directly so take this away from it: These things we want will eventually happen and there is nothing you can do to stop it.

And to everyone else? Please stop trying to argue with this guy be it with facts, reason or insults. It's pretty clear from his posts that he is A: Obsessed with Dan and B: Stupid. There isn't any point.
66
The anti-gay hate-spewing e-mail is disgusting, but so is the response. I don't have much use for the religious right, and I do hate what they are doing. I don't see a need to stoop to their level to say so.
67

Reread your posts. You have nothing but uneducated opinions and bile.

I don't fear the truth and I don't fear you.

You are an anonymous. sad little internet troll with a chip on its' shoulder and a keyboard. And before you go off on your next little rant, which will go something like this: "Oh, but your posting under a pseudonym as well! Nyah, Nyah, you big bully!"

temoyer@att.net

And as for "writing off all opinions and beliefs other than your own as HATE.", your beliefs and opinions are your own, and I don't really care what they are. But when you start posting the incredibly obnoxious things you have been, you push them into the realm of hate. Its not your choices, it's your actions. Or, to be more precise, your 'Lifestyle Choice'.

You don't have to be a bigoted moron who attacks people due to their sexuality, but it is your 'Choice' to do it if you want.

Just don't be surprised when people who have had enough your pathetic moral crusade stuff your sorry self back under that bridge you crawled out under.

I don't recall you asking me for my approval to life your life as you see fit, I don't recall giving it, and I sure as hell don't ask anyone else for permission to be who I am. It's none of their damn business. Your judgments and name-calling belongs more on a 2nd grade schoolyard than with the adults in the room. Go back to the kids table. You obviously aren't ready to play with the grown ups.

Unless YOU want to publish your email address?

Yeah. I didn't think so.
69
I was hoping we'd play the "author: male or female?" game. This one's particularly tricky.
70
68

you described the troll as 'hateful'.

the homoliberal left dismiss opinions different from their own as 'hate'
and try to get those who hold them banned from the public discourse.

that is a convenient position to take if the facts are against you.

what has the troll said that was 'hate'?

which of the trolls positions are unsupported by fact?

when did the troll attack people due to their sexuality?

Truman's supporters cried "Give'em Hell, Harry!"
He replied: "I never give them hell. I just tell the truth and they think it's hell...."

so it is with the troll's 'hate'.
71
El Trollo Magnifico stated:
"bigots never really need a reason for their hate.
and facts mean nothing to them."

Too bad he can't read his own writing.
72
71

what has the troll said that was 'hate'?

which of the trolls positions are unsupported by fact?
73
Reading this actually made me feel good. I can honestly say that I feel sorry for this person. I've heard others claim that they feel sorry for haters like this and always assumed it was BS, but I really do feel pity for this person. Obviously, this person is troubled enough by our existence that s/he had to sit down and write out these feelings. I'm so thankful that I don't have to face life with that kind of anger/fear. It must be very frustrating to watch the world progress in a way that offends you. This person is clearly tortured and I, fortunately, am not. I can only hope this person finds peace without harming him/herself or anyone else.

Life is so short. It would really suck to spend it being angry at the world around you.
74
@72: Everything, all of them.

You aren't being engaged on your "facts" because your fundamental premises are so grievously flawed that it is pointless, if not impossible, to engage you on the details. It is as though you are arguing about the locations of the four corners of the Earth while the rest of us know the Earth is round.

That, and you're a troll.
75
74

It is true that both sides seem to feel the other's fundamental premises are so grievously flawed that it is pointless, if not impossible, to engage each other on the details.

However we find our positions quite reasonable and find it telling that the only response from Slog is to call us haters and other assorted insults rather than engaging the points laid out.

Dan fancies to blame homosexual suicide on 'christians'; a demonstrably factually incorrect premise.

It seems much more likely that once one adopts a fundamental premise that is grievously flawed and the complete opposite of what will make one happy that the resulting inner conflict and torture would inevitably lead to depression, mental illness and thoughts of suicide.

People who attend church are one forth as suicidal as the average person, homosexuals are four times as suicidal as the average person.
Who seems to have adopted a lifestyle based on a grievously flawed fundamental premise?

76
The writer thinks homosexuality is stupid? My gut feeling is that his straight relationships are profoundly leotarded. (As were the few, short, cringe-worthy relationships of the troll.)
77
It's people like this that make it harder and harder for me to keep calling myself a Christian...but I guess I just need to remember that anyone filled with this much hate isn't really a Christian.

Hope aside from this email, and that ridiculous trip to the gym, you and yours had a great Thanksgiving, Dan.
78
@48: As an on-and-off /b/tard, I can tell you that your reaction is spot-on. Any such request is immediately met with "/b/ is not your personal army", unless it's particularly lulzy (i.e., offers a hilarious opportunity to troll).

@75: "a demonstrably factually incorrect premise."
If it's so demonstrably factually incorrect, why don't you demonstrate its factual incorrectness? Show us where we're wrong in attributing the increased rates of suicide amongst LGBTQ persons to the societal persecution and inacceptance they are subjected to. (Is "inacceptance" a word?)
Go on. DO IT FAGGOT.
79
Alright, by the numbers:

"It is true that both sides seem to feel the other's fundamental premises are so grievously flawed that it is pointless, if not impossible, to engage each other on the details."

Bad use of apostrophe, but again, you are wrong. Is NOT pointless or impossible! Quite the contrary, it is an ESSENTIAL to attempt to educate those whose are ignorant. And the details are what is most important, because while faith can only take you so far, fact is immutable.

“However we find our positions quite reasonable and find it telling that the only response from Slog is to call us haters and other assorted insults rather than engaging the points laid out.”

Of COURSE you find your positions reasonable! They are YOUR positions! You have staked a claim on your hill and you aren’t budging! The question is, did you come to your positions based on fact or belief? Fact is PROVABLE! Something that, in all the posts you have laid out, I have never seen a shred of. Since you back your position up with faith and not fact, a reasonable person would conclude that you care less for the facts and more for your faith. When you lay out unsubstantiated points, what are we to believe?

“Dan fancies to blame homosexual suicide on 'christians'; a demonstrably factually incorrect premise.”

Really? Let’s use the scientific method. The hypotheses states that the religious intolerance of homosexuality can, and has, driven people to end their lives. As a hypothesis, we can prove this. We have proof of religious intolerance, we have proof of religious bigotry, we have proof that some (not all) people have ended their lives due the pressure put upon them by the religious affiliation held by either them or their parents and/or extended family. Does every gay person do this? No. Does the religious condemnation play a role in certain suicides?

Wait for it…

>spoiler alert<

If we are religious based hater bigots, you bet your fat ass it does......

“It seems much more likely that once one adopts a fundamental premise that is grievously flawed and the complete opposite of what will make one happy that the resulting inner conflict and torture would inevitably lead to depression, mental illness and thoughts of suicide.”

One thing jumped out at me from this sentence, “complete opposite of what will make one happy “. Seriously, who the hell are you to know what makes a person happy or not? Where did you learn this, and from whom? How did you obtain this all-encompassing knowledge? Who made you God, to know what is best for all people? Do you think it’s a good idea to drink milk? Should we pass a law that everyone should drink milk? Wow, that will be REALLY bad news for the lactose intolerant. But I guess they transgressed God’s unwritten law that all should drink milk! Unless, of course, God makes mistakes? Or maybe it’s evolution? And speaking of ‘grievously flawed’, you obviously mean that anyone who believes something out of the ‘mainstream’ is obviously incorrect and needs some education to turn their lives toward the truth. You mean like believing in an invisible being in the sky that guides your life? I stopped believing that fable a long time ago.

“People who attend church are one forth as suicidal as the average person, homosexuals are four times as suicidal as the average person.”

Really? Show your damn work! Where are the studies? Where are the statistics? Where can you cite me one piece of peer-reviewed work that supports this outlandish claim? And, since you so blithely use ‘average person’ in your pointless, self-referencing comment, who, and/or what, IS an average person? Do you have a guide? A mid-range point we can reference? Don’t be throwing out statistics unless you can back them up. That, dear troll, is called facts.

“Who seems to have adopted a lifestyle based on a grievously flawed fundamental premise?”

You want to know? Look in a mirror.

79

Dan asserts a biological genetic basis for an innate condition of homosexuality.
he offers no evidence or proof.
there is none.
he wants to radically change public policy and social structures to accommodate his INNATE homosexuality.
he'll need to come back with more than teary youtube videos before America bites.
in the meantime we will continue to vote to outlaw homosexual marriage.

Of COURSE we find our positions reasonable!
cause we vet them on Slog month after month and the only replies are that we must be closet gay or haters or stupid...
in the business they call that a non-denial denial.
doesn't address the issue at hand.
just a lot of blather and fury.
we've read every study Dan posts.
Posts and misrepresents......
keep trying, Dan!

what makes people happy?
there are traits all humans share.
there are things that will lead to happiness and satisfaction.
and things that will lead to despair, misery, hopelessness, SUICIDE....
not everyone drinks milk.
but everyone needs calcium or they will die.
does homosexuality make people happy?
not so far.
not in this country or any other.
not in countries with christianity.
not in secular humanist societies that embrace the gay.
all those cultures share something; high homosexual suicide rates.

all the facts cited @75 have been posted on slog and linked.
google away.

the side with the high suicide rate, high depression rates, high mental illness rates wants to blame everything but their distinctive lifestyle.
especially wants to blame the segment of society that rejects their distinctive lifestyle, and (gosh!) has mental health indices that are disproportionately correspondingly positive in contrast to their negative.

do you really have to wonder why we don't buy it?

funny.
all the hate and insult Slog dishes doesn't make the troll contemplate suicide.
but maybe that's just us.....

I am so sorry that you receive hate mail from idiots who pervert the tenets of a religion that is supposed to be based on love and redemption. No one, Christian or not, should take any satisfaction from another person's death, particularly not the suicide of a child. According to the Bible, Jesus spent his time on earth hanging out with everyone from prostitutes and extortionists to uneducated fishermen to theologians. I find it hard to believe that Jesus would have had any problem with gays. Moreover, the slut shaming and the bullying of Jewish kids that the douchebag referenced were also somewhat related to Christian intolerance. Jews were derided as "Christ-killers", and Christianity, along with most Western religions, placed a premium on female purity. The sleazy guy spreading rumors would have been powerless if "mainstream" teens hadn't been conditioned to look down on anyone who'd had sex. And why does the writer say that teenage girls "were" killing themselves because of slut shaming? They still are. Did he somehow avoid hearing about Phoebe Prince? Sure, the IGBP is focused on the problems facing LGBT youth. But the message spread by your project is a message of hope, and it absolutely is not restricted to gay teens. Any troubled teen who sees those videos can walk away knowing that they have a chance at a better future. And hey - Christianity started out as a message directed solely at the Jews, but a determined Samarian woman took that message and applied it to her own life. Now, Christianity is supposed to be a universal religion - unless you ask the dipshit who wrote you that email. As a Christian teenager, I have huge problems with and difficult questions about my religion, mostly due to the intolerance and willful ignorance practiced by most Christian denominations. It sucks. But I want you to know that, thanks in part to you, I'm learning to be more open-minded and more sensitive to other people. I'm inspired by the work you've done with the It Gets Better Project, and am trying to spread the word. Thanks so much for your efforts, and I hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

@80: There's a hell of a lot of evidence suggesting that sexual orientation is innate. Just as one example, studies have found that the brain chemistry of homosexuals (in certain key attraction-related neurological centers that tend to change little during one's lifetime) is more akin to that of heterosexuals of the opposite gender.
And claiming that homosexuality doesn't make people happy is ridiculous. For one thing, you think that heterosexual relationships are all sunshine and roses?
For another, don't you know that "gay" also means "happy"?
83
GAY: The word had started to acquire associations of immorality by 1637 and was used in the late 17th century with the meaning "addicted to pleasures and dissipations." This was by extension from the primary meaning of "carefree": implying "uninhibited by moral constraints." A gay woman was a prostitute, a gay man a womanizer and a gay house a brothel.
The use of gay to mean "homosexual" was in origin merely an extension of the word's sexualised connotation and implied a willingness to disregard respectable sexual mores.
At about the same time, a new, pejorative use became prevalent in some parts of the world. In the Anglosphere, this connotation, among younger speakers, has a derisive meaning equivalent to rubbish or stupid (as in "That's so gay.") This usage can also refer to weakness or unmanliness.

El Trollo Magnifico:

So your point is that language evolves?
You copied from Wikipedia that: “GAY: The word had started to acquire associations of immorality by 1637 and was used in the late 17th century with the meaning "addicted to pleasures and dissipations."

You missed some of the more relevant later parts:
And gay also means:

The use of gay to mean "homosexual" was in origin merely an extension of the word's sexualized connotation of "carefree and uninhibited", which implied a willingness to disregard conventional or respectable sexual mores. Such usage is documented as early as the 1920s, and there is evidence for it before the 20th century,[1] although it was initially more commonly used to imply heterosexually unconstrained lifestyles, as in the once-common phrase "gay Lothario".

I LOVE this next part!!!

"Well into the mid 20th century a middle-aged bachelor could be described as "gay", indicating that he was unattached and therefore free, without any implication of homosexuality. This usage could apply to women too."

(Way to selectively edit there, kiddo! I bet you do the same thing to bible commandments you don’t like.)

“By the mid-20th century, gay was well-established as an antonym for straight (which had connotations of respectability), and to refer to the lifestyles of unmarried and/or unattached people.”

Yeah, that was 50 or 60 YEARS ago! My how things change!

And this part: “There is little doubt that the homosexual sense is a development of the word's traditional meaning, as described above.”

And before you go all hot and heavy about the gays destroying a perfectly good word, check the following:

“In the Middle Ages it was believed that when a person was writing with their left hand they were possessed by the Devil. Left-handed people were therefore considered to be evil.”

See? Languages evolve, as do societal attitudes and people…well, some of us, anyway.

@83: Bitches don't know bout my COUNTER TROLL.
Also, THE GAME

you forgot the part about the gay being synonymous with AIDS and rampant STDs and irresponsible behavior in the face of tons of knowledge, education and outreach....
87
@86: Whoa Nellie, we don't need to hear about your fapping-material fantasies.
88
You are TOO funny!
“you forgot the part about the gay being synonymous with AIDS and rampant STDs and irresponsible behavior in the face of tons of knowledge, education and outreach....”

Oops! Bigot Alert!

You seem to forget that “The Gay” also includes lesbians, who have the lowest infection rate worldwide. And, if you want to know what the continent with the highest infection rate is, it happens to be Africa. It happens to be RIFE with proclaimed heterosexuality!

(And a rape average of 1 per 3.5 males, but I guess that is to be expected. Why, I don't know, but I am guessing it is something biblical.)

And what about the black community? Or the Hispanic? Or the white?

Lets go to the scoreboard!
Oh, LOOK!
http://www.cdc.gov/std/health-disparitie…

It says that African Americans had 8.8 times the reported infection rate of Chlamydia that white people! I guess that means, by your logic, that since rampant STD’s are ‘synonymous’ among ‘Gays’, that all these people are GAY!!!

Important fact: PROVABLE rates do not equal a synonym.

As in: “synonymous with AIDS and rampant STDs and irresponsible behavior in the face of tons of knowledge, education and outreach “.

(Fact FAIL!)

Face it. You hate gay people, and you don’t think that they have a right to exist amongst god fearin’ folks such as yourself. You have now proven yourself to have a bias against people who are different than you.

You DO have every right to bury your head in the sand about the world around you, and you do have the right to hate people who are different. But you will NEVER get away with it around me. I will not be silent.

Good luck with your choices, by the way…
89
It is funny that when people criticize homosexuals they are almost always thinking predominantly of male homosexuals. I fear that antiquated notions of masculinity will die much harder than those of femininity.
90
@89: Well, they'd criticize the female homosexuals too, except they probably find them hawt.
92
@90 . . until my lezzie fist connects with their bigot balls.

Now let's only hope they won't actually enjoy that .. . .

"You seem to forget that “The Gay” also includes lesbians...."

oh yeah

that's why they call them "gays and lesbians"....

.

'bigot'?

how about "PC Alert!"

pointing out an Inconvenient Truth is not bigotry.

sorry if the Truth hurts your widdle feewings.....

what would YOU call a population whose behavior gives them AIDS 44X as much as normal Americans?
that infects ONE in FIVE with AIDS?

hate to be the one to break the news to you-
but in Real America, in the health care community,
gay IS synonymous with AIDS and rampant STDs and irresponsible behavior
in the face of tons of knowledge, education and outreach.....

we don't hate homosexuals.
we pity them.
it must be terrible being addicted to such a destructive lifestyle,
to have staked all on a fundamental premise that is grievously flawed
and the complete opposite of what will make one happy.

we don't hate homosexuals.
we don't hate alcoholics.
we don't hate drug addicts.
we don't hate obese people who have given themselves diabetes.

we feel sorry for them....

94
@93: "in Real America...gay IS synonymous with AIDS and rampant STDs and irresponsible behavior"
This is why I stay the fuck out of the ignorant, ass-backwards parts of the USA.
95
Face it, Magnifico, you cherry pick your statistics and facts to bolster your position. That's why you 'conveniently' omitted the LOWEST RISING GROUP! Dishonesty, thy name is 'Magnifico'.

And I love this part:
we don't hate homosexuals.
we don't hate alcoholics.
we don't hate drug addicts.
we don't hate obese people who have given themselves diabetes.

Maybe so, but as for the last three groups, have you been dropping your charming little comments on their websites? Have you been actively trying to disenfranchise them and their lives through legislation? Have you been denying them their civil rights because of their 'destructive lifestyle'?

Because until the answer to those questions is 'Yes', you remain a smarmy, bigoted asshole.

And that, as they say, is a lifestyle 'choice'.
96
@93. What you seem to forget is that "real America" (whatever the fuck that is) can no longer set limits on or control the rest of us. America belongs just as much to us as it does to you. Your only option is to just get used to it.
97
I think it's funny the way it ducks and weaves between subjects. It can't stay on topic because it can't defend it's position. It has to move on or be demolished. Poor widdle thing!!!
98
95- 'disenfranchise' may not mean what you think it does.....
(we do have concerns about drug abusers and alcoholics adopting and raising children, if it makes you feel any better.)

96- do you know how many states have voted to OUTLAW homosexual marriage?
(do you know how many have voted to make it legal? do you know what happened to the judges in Iowa?)

94- lucky you living in enlightened Illinois where homosexual marriage passed by a HUGE margin!! whahahahahahahahaha! fuck out yourself!!
99
@95

Do you and Danny and the Credulous HomoLiberal Fanboy Club fight for polygamy rights?
Religious Freedom is Constitutionally guaranteed.
And there is way way more historical and biological proof that polygamy is natural and normal than for, say, homosexuality.

Do you and Danny and the Credulous HomoLiberal Fanboy Club fight for polygamy rights?
Justice delayed is Justice Denied!
Those who would deny Human Rights to others do not deserve them themselves.....

Do you and Danny and the Credulous HomoLiberal Fanboy Club fight for polygamy rights?

Because until the answer to that question is 'Yes', you remain a smarmy, bigoted assholes.
100
It keeps getting funnier! And its' arguments get lamer (If that is possible)!
Check out THIS kneeslapper:
96- do you know how many states have voted to OUTLAW homosexual marriage?

Gosh, I don't know, Mr. Wizard? Probably about the same number that had miscegenation laws? Unless you want to argue about bringing those back, too?
It wouldn't surprise me. After all, the BIBLE talks about that, too! BTW, you didn't happen to eat any shellfish this week, did you? Wouldn't want you to be a closet blasphemer! And are all your clothes 100% cotton?
101
dear anonymous troll: besides the fact that you have your head up your ass, you don't know squat about the law. same sex marriage was not OUTLAWED. laws were passed defining marriage as between one man and one woman. big difference, numbnuts. if same sex marriage was outlawed, people would be busted for it. now, begone, before somebody drops a house on you, mr. bitterpants.
102
the voters in 30 states have OUTLAWED homosexual marriage.
some by margins as large as 80%.
some (California!) twice.
zero have passed it.
z.e.r.o.
in those states homosexual marriage is OUTLAWED.
the State Constitution amended to OUTLAW it.
and often, homosexual civil union is also OUTLAWED.
and, for good measure, many of those states added the provision that if other states pass homosexual marriage or civil union those relationships will NOT be recognized.
so if you take your crappy busted homosexual "marriage" to Texas looking for a divorce you're out of luck.
they won't grant you a divorce because they won't acknowledge your "marriage" even exists.

so, hell yeah, Real America sets limits on and control the rest of you.
do you like the feel of that bridle?
whoa, nelly!

(btw- do you KNOW what happened to those Iowa judges?...)
