State Rep. Tina Orwall (D-33) plans to introduce a bill that would financially compensate people we wrongly convict of crimes and stuff into a prison cell:

It calls for giving former inmates found to be actually innocent $50,000 per year in prison, plus $50,000 more for every year spent on death row and $25,000 for every year on community supervision or as a registered sex offender. Other tenets could include providing health care and paying child support obligations incurred by prisoners during their incarceration.

The state doesn't have much money these days. So instead of siphoning the general fund, maybe the compensation—if this long shot bill ever passes—should come out of the pockets of the police departments and prosecutors offices behind the bogus convictions made with unreliable evidence. That would stick the accountability where it belongs.
