I would like to donate to the "Send Lindy West to Heckle Gallagher" Fund.
2
Apparently, when my mother-in-law was pregnant with her oldest son, she was called out by Gallagher for getting up to use the restroom (as pregnant ladies have to do fairly often) and called her a fat whale. I'm pretty sure she didn't come back.
3
I remember your other post about him. I never was a fan of his, but my dad (himself a racist and a homophobe) used to rent his performances on VHS, and yet somehow all I remember of those was the thing with the watermelons.

Lucky me, I guess.
4
Poor Gallagher. He's just trying to exercise his constitutional right to free speech, but people like you, Lindy, keep trodding on his rights.
5
White folks sound so stupid when they get mad. They be like "hey asshole, I'm going to kick your b-hind." But the brothers won't even need to raise their voice. These motherfuckers be like "don't make me say it twice."

It's all about electrons!

WTF with Marc Maron is one of my fave podcasts and I just listened to this episode. Ghallagher couldn't answer questions straight without dodging topics or recapping his resume in an attempt to hold ground ... it was sad. I'm sure Maron feels a little bad about the interview, although deserved he normally doesn't hit his guests so hard. I agree comedy in a night club with people drinking should be edgy, uncomfortable and controversial, but its swings a hard line between funny, and another in-the-can waiting to explode at the first chance Michael Richards/Dr. Laura rant. He probably did himself a favor by walking off.
8
The basic thing I got from this is that Gallagher is just another "black people call each other nigger all the time, why can't I?" idiot.
9
And I thought the Blue Collar Comedy boys were insufferable.
10
I'm not a Gallagher fan, by any stretch...and for some reason I decided to listen to this podcast (Who the Fuck is Marc Maron??) and now that i've done so I have to say that I kind of take Gallagher's side on this one. That turned into a terrible interview. Marc did nothing but attack. Obnoxious. Obnoxious.

WTF w/Marc Maron is my favorite podcast. I'm totally hooked on the damned thing. His two-episode interview with Carlos Mencia is already a classic. Maron is on top of his game in that episode calling on his inner 60 Minutes host to get to the bottom of Mencia's horrible reputation in the comedy world.

I can only imagine what the Gallagher interview will be like.

Viva la Maron!!
12
Isn't it enough of a victory that Gallagher's career path has led him to performing at state fairs and casinos?

He's basically the Foreigner or Bret Michaels of comedy.

Further: Shining all this light on this turd only serves to illuminate said turd.

Let it rot in the dark.

Can we all agree to ostracize anybody who uses the word "sheeple?" Just on principle?
14
@13 I'm with that but they still need to be allowed to say it as we need some identifying markers as to who to avoid. Kind of like brightly colored toads.

To post #10 - Who is Marc Maron? He only has one of the top rated podcasts in the country. Why don't you listen to a few more of his podcasts before making a judgement?

As far as an interview it is sad to see what he has become and thinks of himself. This can be hard for once famous celebrities who now can walk anywhere without being noticed. I own a small comedy club and we book mostly local talent. Every once in a while I'll get a call from a comic (or their manager) who was popular ten or twenty years ago. Even though they are willing to take what I can afford as a fee I will not book them. The reason is that I can always tell they are "phoning in" their set and are bitter about where they are in life.

Although it was sad at some points it was hilarious. He obviously knows nothing about comedy when he says you shouldn't stand on a stage and tell people your problems. Well there are many more famous comedians of that type than prop comics (can anyone even name one besides him and carrot top?)

Besides quotes above I loved the "every comic wants to play County Fairs"! Also in this interview he freely admits that he uses street jokes in his act, but in his FAQ section on his website he says that all his material is original.

Hmm...Maron does go a little overboard here. Gallagher is an angry, bitter man, but Maron should have let up in order to continue the interview.
18
@17, I disagree. Maron keeps his voice calm, and repeatedly tries to respond to Gallagher's crazypants, while bringing the conversation back to his career, history in comedy, etc.

Dang, I just got to the "everybody wants to work a state fair" bit. That shit is crazy.

"Proof that women invented condoms: "RIBBED FOR HER PLEASURE". What about MY pleasure? Is there a condom that will cook a steak afterwards?"

From Gallagher's twitter...

To paraphrase Jerry Seinfeld, I'm not offended by Gallagher's homophobic jokes, racist jokes or sexist jokes. I'm offended by his JOKES, because they are tired, lame and not funny. If you're going to be edgy, you'd better be funny.
20
I'm digging this interview where Gallagher says he doesn't understand Robin Williams' jokes. The most logical conclusion is that Gallagher doesn't understand any joke that doesn't involve a set up and punchline.
21
Yah, It was a little awkward but I kinda wish Marc was a little more patient and didn't cut off Gallagher every other sentence.
You don't win arguments by talking OVER your competition to silence them. You should let them talk and then silence them when you blow their mind with the power of reason.
22
I'm with 10, 17, and even Marc Maron himself at the beginning of the podcast. Marc was a bit of a douche, and could have gotten a better, probably more damning, interview out of the guy had he not been in douche attack mode the whole time.
23
Gallagher turned the energy and volume up. Maron had to do the same to make himself heard. Fuck Gallagher. Maron's a great interviewer.
24
I was hoping this would be more of a "give him enough rope" kind of interview. But instead, Maron broached the subject in a very awkward and blunt manner, and totally fell for Gallagher's employment of the Fox News "debate" playbook, where Gallagher kept ratcheting up the volume and talking over Maron, prompting Maron to do the same. Then when the volume is maxed out, Gallagher just stops talking and lets Maron be the one sounding like a raving lunatic.

Prior to broaching the subject of Gallagher's racism/sexism/homophobia, Gallagher was doing a perfectly good job of making himself look insane, though Maron was admittedly having a hard time keeping him on-topic.

Bottom line, much of the first half of the interview is Gallagher whining about how he's not as rich as he should be, and that's all the schadenfreude I need. Fucking guy has zero understanding of comedy.
25
Listening to this now. Glad that Marc Maron didn't make it comfortable for Gallagher the whole time, but there are moments with Gallagher talking about show business in the 80s that brings out the little bits of humanity in the guy for a few minutes.
26
I assure you, Gallagher has no Twitter account. While he is up on his technology, this isn't how he chooses to interact with his fans.

Before the fever pitch gets too high, perhaps you should see some recent work of Gallagher before judging.

This blog is hilarious. Apparently Craig Marquardo is Gallaghers agent. As a manager wouldn't you research a bit what type of podcast Marc does and realize what could happen?

In more funny news he supposedly told Marc that after Gallagher walked out of his hotel room he was swarmed by fans. If that's the case why did they need to be on Marc's podcast?

As far as technology goes he is not that much more advanced than Gallagher. First of all he uses an AOL address which right there says he knows nothing about technology. As far as I can tell a search of his company does not show that he has a website. On LinkedIn it shows he has been in Management for less then a year and before that worked for some Portland non profit theater. - Maybe Gallagher should look in his own backyard as to why his career is in the dumps instead of blaming everyone else.
29
@1 I support this, Although I think we should get Lindy Iron Man armor.
30
The "Awwwww, c'mon, Gallagher!" at the end almost cost me coffee out my nose.

The only person less funny than the delusional Gallagher is the author of the above drivel, Lindy West. The only ones who listen to the ramblings of a trendoid-hipster-doofus on what is and isn't comedy are dorks who could double as extras for Portlandia. I'd love to lock her and Gallagher in a room together, they deserve each other. As for Marc Maron, he has a great podcast but he's a hypocrite. He's a regular on the Opie and Anthony show, probably the most racist, homophobic and misogynistic radio program broadcast today. For the record I'm a Democrat pro-Obama voter but apparently it's OK with Lindy West if Marc joins in the homophobic, racist and misogynistic fun on 'Opie and Anthony' as long as he's a liberal who attacks a right-wing sad delusional Gallagher. Maron isn't the only hypocrite Lindy.

According to Gallagher, lesbians have a man's spirit and gay men have a woman's spirit. By this logic, straight men have a lesbian's spirit with the benefit of a strap-on as original factory equipment - none of this shoddy after-market crap.

But really, Gallagher is a sad, broken and extremely uninformed pathetic bitter little man. Just another showbiz has-been. Racist, sexist melon hacker.

Mr. Maron my be narcissistic and at times hypocritical and so on but he's also the first to admit that he's broken but he is interesting and has a lot more to offer than beating on poor defensless fruit and vegetables.
