He'll be gone much sooner than September. We see this all the time - if there's no brutal crackdown a la Tiananmen Square or Iran, the demonstrations continue, pressure comes from around the world and the leader steps down.

I bet Mubarak has one week left, if that long.

Granted your friend has much better view on the situation than I do, but I still think anyone who believes Mubarak's "promise" to step down in September is putting too much faith in this ad hoc campaign promise.
