ha! i just *KNEW* the link would be to the clown-car-vagina family photo. excellent. :)
2
Come on. Conservative women don't have sex. And conservative men don't have sex with their wives.
3
Shorter version: Conservatives hate women.
4
But, but, sex is EVIL, right?
5
The fucking pope runs the Republican party. And while we're on the subject of conservatives, Ronald Reagan raised taxes six out of the eight years he was in office and tripled the debt. But he was against a womans right to choose and he courted the KKK so it's should be clear why the right worships him.
6
Ah, the Evangelical female mullet: Wings in the front, 4 foot spiral perm in the back. Pair with long jeans skirt and sensible shoes.

One wonders if sex in the Duggar household is like throwing a hotdog down a hallway.
7
Oh please @5, a significant number of American Catholics fall decisively to the left of the GOP on many social issues, including contraception & abortion; perhaps not a majority, but certainly enough to debunk that assertion.

Jimmy Swaggart, Pat Robertson and their ilk in the Fundamentalist Protestant Church have far more influence on the GOP than does Ratzy.
8
"very few of them have the large broods many of them would have if they themselves stuck to the no contraception rule."

That, or they're not getting any, and that's their real problem.

Anyone remember the scene from Monty Python's "Meaning of Life"?
Protestant husband: "Look at those damn Catholics. Every time they have sex, they've got to have a baby."
Wife: "Well dear, we have two children. And we've had sex twice."
9
True enough, Canuck. I'm sure you could park a bus in there with room to spare.
10
Why don't Republicans have bigger families? Because the man of the house is too busy being balls deep with his piece on the side to knock up the missuz. And that piece on the side does tend to have a penis.
11
Contraception is for people who haven't accepted Jesus into their lives in order that He can personally decide to bless or deny all their dirty maculations.
12
I mean, Natural Family Planning is pretty effective when you do it right (although almost nobody does it to the letter soooo *shrug*).
13
Or at a least a minivan, 5280...

I'll thank the Holy Ghost to stay out of my uterus, thank you very much, OuterCow. Don't give it any ideas, remember what happened last time??
14
The Duggers have even more kids now.

/hork
15
Wasn't Nancy Reagan pregnant with Ronald's baby before they were married? Conservatives may screw their girlfriends but the ones they fuck are the voters.
16
@7 Is that why the Bushs filled the court with papists?
17
The main reason Republicans don't have large families:

Gay sex in bathrooms does not result in pregnancy.
18
Same reason your family portrait doesn't look like that Dan. The question at hand is now that Maggie and some religious figures put the kibosh on back-door action, will these new "morals" take root in the conservative household, or will the most Christian form of birth control remain at the top of the list in deference to the desirous symmetry that two kids give a family portrait.
19
@13 Sadly Canuck, I just can't remember what happened the last time the Holy Ghost entered your uterus. But I am still have no memory of 2006 and ever since then I burst into uncontrolable tears whenever I see a picture of a koala bear or a volcano, if that helps.
20
Not *my* uterus, OuterCow, *Her* uterus, the Virgin Margarita, the Sacred Holy Sperm Vessel, She Who Must Be Obeyed...HER what started all this nonsense...

I am sorry you are having traumatic koala flashbacks, I prescribe tequila and a waterbed until symptoms pass...
21
@20: Virgin Margaritas are an abomination.
22
Considering how many of them are closet gays, I'm not really surprised they don't have bigger families.
23
It's because Democrats keep the curtains open when noone wants to see, and Republicans keep the curtains closed when there's nothing *to* see.
24
@20 Oh! Yeah, that makes more sense.
25
Well, of course they want to punish women for having sex, but it's no fun for married Republican men ... because then THEY would be stuck with the kids. OTOH, punishing unmarried women, now that's fun!

Besides, we need to remember that the industry of pushing out babies from the bodies of unwed women has been harshly affected by contraception over the past few decades. Why - that's ... that's Unamerican for there not to be wee babes to be adopted really cheaply ('cuz there has to be a value incentive) by more deserving but barren married couples!
26
@21 Of course they are, which is why I'm not Catholic, and instead believe in St. Tequila. She will never let you down.
27
@26: Hey now, there are a lot of sins that can be laid at the feet of Holy Mother Church, but an aversion to alcohol is not one of them. Booze is literally a sacrament. There's none of that namby-pamby grape juice - only the real thing. I once attended an RC church in Ottawa that had a bar in the basement.
28
My still-catholic neighbor (as opposed to my ex-catholic self) attends a church that has a happy hour social after mass each Sunday. :) Srsly, she comes home from church drunk.

More to the point...this is nothing new. I spent my entire employment w/the federal government contemplating the possibility that my reproductive health benefits would be cut because "we can't spend tax dollars murdering unconceived children," or potentially treating the STIs of unmarried or nonmanogomous people or the partners of liars, or preventing the death of unmarried women from diseases that may sometimes have something to do with sex. Then I remembered that repugs controlled everything and was assured that they'd never take those benefits away because they need them more than I do.
29
I din't read all the comments, so if this has already been pointed out, sorry. Did anyone notice that the kid standing in front of the mother has his hair part on the opposite side of head from the rest of his brothers?
Yep, he's gay.

They're not necessarily hypocrites; they might just not have penis-in-vagina intercourse all that much/ever. If Christin teens can saddleback, why can't Christian adults do it in order to not have 15 children? And/or maybe they're really practiced at withdrawal: according to Planned Parenthood, "Of every 100 women whose partners use withdrawal, 4 will become pregnant each year if they always do it correctly." Typical use is at 30/100, but I'm guessing the numbers are much lower (and/or there is a much higher perfect use rate) if a couple doesn't have penis-in-vagina sex (or any sex) all that frequently. Christianity is pretty sex-negative, and so are Christian fundamentalists; the ones who aren't DO have 15 kids.

Also, remember that a majority of Christians in this country are not Catholic, though why the others are opposing covering birth control is beyond me, since most Protestant denominations are cool with it (then again, the Catholic Church used to be fine with birth control and abortion, since the soul wasn't thought to enter the body until different times throughout its history, including at the first breath, which is whence comes all that soul-leaving-the-body-with-the-dying-breath imagery). It really is just sex-negativity and misogyny. I'm also perfectly willing to believe that plenty of people who oppose covering birth control under insurance have used/do use it themselves, possible because they erroneously believe their tax dollars are somehow paying for someone else's ability to fuck with reckless abandon (I might be pissed about that too, if I didn't tend to have all that much sex, in the same way that I might be pissed about how much we spend on highway maintenance if I didn't drive frequently/ever). But mostly I think it's just a lot of uncritically-parroting whatever talking points FOX News is airing. If you actually sit some of these people down, they wind up contradicting themselves, because their "beliefs" are entirely uninterrogated and frequently inconsistent.

@7: Actually, Vince said the Pope runs the Republican Party, not, "A minority of liberal/progressive Catholic Americans run the Republican Party," nor, "All self-proclaimed Catholics back the Pope 100% and are Republicans." The Pope, any Pope, has so far been Conservative as fuck. Of course, I can't really understand why leftist Catholics continue to call themselves Catholic, what with them rejecting the truth of a majority of the Christian Bible AND the papal mandate, but whatever.

Canuck wins this thread.
